Hey everybody,

I am getting ready to order the TSW Universal 2 pedal controller to go with
my logitech momo racing force steering wheel.  I notice that the controller
comes with 2 10dk pots.  I do not know that much about the pots.  Would it
be worth it to upgrade to the ETI pots or will I not notice much of a
difference?  Which pots last longer, if either?  I'd also like to know if
some of you have had good or bad experiences with anything made by TSW.
Thanks!

Thanks ahead,

Shock

I'm not an expert, but don't your pots have to be a specific range for use
with USB?

Regarding experience with TSW, mine has been nothing but excellent.  Keep in
mind, however, that my original TSW wheel is a good 5 years old now and TSW's
models (especially regarding pedals) have changed since then.  My TSW wheel and
peds are extremely solid.  To be totally truthful, I don't use the wheel
anymore because I wanted FF, so I switched to a MOMO a few years ago.  But I
have used the pedals for 5 years now (thru the gameport).

I have occasionally had to replace the pots, and have found that the "Spec"
pots (higher end for gameport based peds) are well worth it.  They last longer
and are a bit more precise.  On my TSW wheel and peds, replacing the posts is
very easy, and I do not consider myself to be mechanically inclined.

I've also found TSW's e-mail support to be very good, as well.

From my experience, you won't regret dealing with TSW.

I'd say the higher quality pots are definitely worth it.  I've changed out 2
dk pots for my brake pedal while I haven't even had to touch my throttle pot
in the same amount of time (My throttle pot is a Spec pot...the high quality
pots for the gameport).  Of course this is over a very long period of time,
but it looks like the higher quality pots will pay for themselves in the
long run.

All I have are good experiences with my TSW and with the company.  My wheel
has been rock solid for a good number of years now.  I just have to do the
occasional pot change, but that's it.  I had some trouble with my paddle
shifter wiring block, but they sent me a replacement wiring block
immediately.

They will take care of you when it comes to pot selection.  They won't put a
set of pots into a pair of USB pedals that won't work.  Having said that, I
believe the ETI pots are only for the USB controllers.  If you decide to go
with the DK pots, they will automatically throw in the 250k pots, which are
best for USB.  They will only throw in the 100k pots if you specifically ask
for them (which I do because they are better for my gameport).

So the short answer is, don't worry about the range of the pots, TSW will
take care of you.  Just go with the ETIs and call it good.

Do you think I would be ok using the 2 pedal control with the gameport?  I
am not really looking forward to buying that USB pedal control box for $70.

Hey Shock, if you can get the pedals on the GP and the wheel on the USB to
work fine (which you should be able to) then I'd just go that route. Thomas
*says* that if you're using Win XP that you may need to switch over to USB
to prevent twitching in the controller calibration, but I have a TSW2 Cup,
on a gameport (wheel and pedals) and use Win XP Pro with no problems with
the SPEC pots and not using USB.

Cool.  I am going to order them in the morning without the pedal control box
and with the spec pots.  I have a friend who just emailed me and said I
could buy his PCB cheap if I needed it, apparently he doesn't, lol.  Anyway,
thanks for the info!

I recently jumped into practice for a race and discovered my steering pot was
flaky.  I logged off, changed the pot, and jumped back into the race before
practice was over.  The steering wheel is REAL easy to work on.  I've changed a
pot on the pedals before, but it wasn't 'under duress'.

Seconded - to both of those statments.

Ive had mine for about 7 years now. lol.

I'm using the 50k spec pots into a game port (audigy) using win xp. I get a
tiny twitch once in a great while and its nothing that effects my driving...
Maybe its kept me from that 1:04 flat at WG though. :|

I had a worn steering pot that I had been too lazy to replace take me out of an
online GP event.  Twitched on the back straight, sent me off track and into the
fence - race over in less than 10 laps out of 108...
Hmm...two mechanical failures in two GP races - steering and clutch...  I need
better mechianics. :-)

handsomely when the steering wheel (which I HAD cleaned right before,
but the pot was just worn out) twitched right in the middle of the
braking zone at Crowthorne.

I simply kicked mine after the aforementioned incident   ;)
