Are you seriously suggesting that "anyone with any common sense" would
suggest banning an electrified skateboard but _not_ put a ban on guns?
This can only happen in the US of A.

And there's no way corporate America will let this go in our lives.  Their
"interest" pass way over the interest of the simple person, of course.

If it were of oil companies, I'm sure they would find a way to ban all
bicycles <G>

Ah geez, someone had to coame along and make it political. Guns are banned
here, except for hunting and shooting ranges.

These things are motor vehicles, and are thus illegal on bike and walking
paths.

They're nothing more than electric mopeds that balance themselves.

In most respects walking a long distance would be more comfortable than
riding one of these things a long distance, at least until they put a seat
on one. Standing is far more tiring than walking over a long period of time.

The answer is pretty simple really. They had to wait for the metalurgy to
make a viable chain. The design isn't quite as simple as it appears at
first glance either. The idea was obvious, the application took a while.

At this point the chain drive bike can be as much as 98% efficient.

For $300 bucks I can buy a bike that weighs one third less than the Segway.
Goes twice as fast and is fueled by Snickers bars that I get to eat, all
the while becoming a healthier, stronger human being, instead of reducing
myself to a brain in a muscleless blob on an electric cart.
