F1-2001 Turn Menu Sound Off?

by Klin » Tue, 27 Nov 2001 05:05:06

Now that the beta F1-2001 patch has arrived and folks have been having good
results with it, I broke down and got F1-2001. It certainly is 'way, 'way
ahead of F1-2000 - I think I'll be spending a lot of time with this one,
especially since Rally Trophy is delayed in N.A. <sigh>.

Anyway, quick question: Can that annoying menu sound be turned off? Is it a
separate file somewhere that I can rip off the disk, take out back and
shoot? Geez, it's a pain.

He may be talking about the "echo type" sound, every time a
mouse-click is used. It is very annoying. There's a way to get rid of
it too, hopefully someone who knows will post.

Just delete the sounds you don't want from your F1 2001\Sounds\Options
folder F12001 will work fine without them.

goto www.jensonf1.com for the nomovies patch.

by using this patch + the nocd patch, my game now loads *much* faster.

on my crappy cd drive the cdrom protection takes 15 seconds or more to
verify the original cd.  ooops.  wrong thread.

Or how about the Crew Chief radioing to you "It's the last lap. Don't stop
now." Say what? He's worried that I'm just going to pull over and park for
the hell of it??? I haven't done too many quick races yet, but already I'm
tempted to do so, just to annoy him. <grin> Oh well, at least it's better
than the message in F1-2000 when you went off course: "Try to stay on the
track. You'll be faster that way." Look, I'm in the gravel trap for the
zillionth time - I already *know* it's not the fast line, so bug off, OK?

Seems to me when I had the temerity to remove one little sound the game
crashed/wouldn't load/blew my fuses or something.

Thanks for the pointer Alex. What made the menu selection especially
annoying is that there were actually two sounds - one when your cursor
'hovered' over an icon, then another when you actually clicked it. In the
folder "F1 2001\Sounds\Options" they were "icon_transition_1.wav" and
"negative_1.wav". Renaming those files got rid of the sounds. I think the
latter one is also used when adjusting a +/- numerical setting since there's
also a "positive_1.wav" file. Fortunately it's not too annoying, so I set
that one back to the original file name.

Stephen - I think that "It's in the game" intro you mentioned is the
"Eas.bik" file in the "F1 2001\Anim" folder, but if you rename or delete it,
the game loads a similar one from the CD, so that patch mentioned by istoff
would be the way to go.

Finally, if you're sick of that FIA licensing screen just before then main
one, it's the "Legal.bmp" file in the "F1 2001\Options" folder. Rename it to
skip over, or better yet substitute a shot of some F1 pit babes. <grin>
