Mr. Gearan finally writes a rebuttal

How hard can it be to write "I apologize to the Petty family for my harsh
and unwarrented comments.  However, my opinions on racing stand."  That's
all he really had to write.  He hasn't figured out that his opinion on
racing isn't what fired most people up, but his comments directed at the
Petty family and the way he did it is the issue.  I mean, I think pro
basketball wastes 3 channels on my TV every night, so I simply choose to
ignore the sport.  Can't he do the same for racing and leave it well enough
alone?

I'm through wasting time with this nut--I have some work to do so I can
participate in my "non-sport" this weekend.

"Some folks correctly pointed out that I know almost nothing about auto
racing. My stock response is that I know enough: that it kills fine young men
like Adam Petty far too often."

Hoo boy. Does this guy just get dumber?

I think the point that people were asserting was more about him being a
blathering idiot. No sh&t the Petty family grieves. But hey - taking an
unnecessary risk?

Take the train next time, dumb ass. Far less risky that those death machines
the hicks call "airplanes".

(Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.. hey, wait, that's below the Mason-Dixon line
too...)

My biggest point (besides that this guy is an idiot) is that he's obviously
paid to run off at the mouth about stuff he admittedly doesn't know much
about..

Oh, I could go on. I won't.

Before I thought maybe he has some personal reasons for the article.  Or
maybe he had a personal beef with the Petty's.  Or had a friend killed in
racing.  Nope, I was wrong.  His is just simply an ass.

I'm thankful for the day the second car was built.  That was the day the
first car had something to race against.

And I am quite sure history will prove that dinosaurs all died just to
provide fossil fuels to power race cars.  God must be a race fan.

Best way to beat this guy is to support your local short track--that is
where the NASCAR guys of tomrrow are coming from.

Wath Teed me off was his lack in research on Auto Racing Period.  This
being the land of the free he has a right to his opinion, but if he is
going to write about it it should be an informed opinion, not the
misinformed garbage he wrote.  Also Jeff (JEDD as he called him) Krosnoff
should have been at least correctly noted.  Most guys like him fire off
something while being completely misinformed.  Racing is dangerous,
unfornately when somehting goes wrong in a race car it usually gones
terribly wrong.

His opinion hold about the same wieght as someone saying we need to
register guns in the USA due to a child of 6 years old shooting another
with a stolen gun.

While I wouldnt put all of these on my list, some of them would be
there.
BUT, you forgot to add Wrestling. What a pure joke it is, it's
pathetic to watch.

Whoever said it's a sport?  In the words of the WWF, it's sports entertainment.
While most of the matches are planned out, there's nothing fake about smacking

No- we have bowling, which is even worse.  Soccer matches have much more
action- and that's just in the stands! :-)
