True, but after all those crappy releases since GPL hope starts to
fade away..

I don't care, as it will take a LONG time until I can drive a 67 Ferrari
through Buttklenchen Wheelgrippen, won't it? Probably it will never happen.
I was just saying, that I don't agree with that singular thought of "this
sim will make all others redundant".

Well I gotta admit that I came very late to GPL, late last year to be
exact, I've had a GPL 'holiday' for about 6 months and have just started
racing again (to be exact I've just started relearning how to drive the
damn thing!) - nothnig else race-sim wise has matched the 'feel' of GPL
(for me at least)

I'll be getting WSC for sure, but GPL will stay, we all need variety.

Alan.

You picked the worst possible example to make your case. The West Bros. have
long stated that one of the cars to ship with the first version will be the
1967 Ferrari 312 F1 car.   : )

Okay, that satisfies ONE of the TWO (car and track) features of GPL... ;)

.. which is extremely brave of them.. I can't wait to compare WSC's
312 behaviour to that of GPL :)
Carry on the great work guys while I'm going to drool over that movie
once more..

Heheh ok you have a point, if GPL could speak when you are driving it would
probably say "Ohhhh the humanity, somebody help me... I'm afraid... I'm
afraid Dave..."

WSC doesnt seem to offer online racing. Only Lan is supposed to be
implemented (this info comes from Empire's web site).

If this is true, GPL will keep the pole position in racing sims.

From the lastest interview that the West Brothers did, WSC  will very
much have online racing, check out

Will the GPL community suffer at the hands of WSC?

I would HOPE that car and track makers NOT waste thier time replicating
GPL in WSC.  WHY ???   If GPL if one of the better sims out there...even if
WSC supasses it...then I would hope the focus of WSC are the many other
areas of sim racing that are not up to GPL's level of expertise.  Just like
there are seemingly dozens of F1 sims...yet lots of users keep asking for
more F1 sims, or patches for other products like Nascar Heat.   Modern F1
has at least 3 fairly serious offerings and several more one-off sims like
Lankor's racer.
So doing another modern f1 is just duplicating what is already available.  I
bet TRUSRS85   can tell where I'm going..:)...but with so many tracks and
series not covered, I would once again hope WSC is prodded to provide racing
for DTM or Endurance FIA races, or Aussie Touring Cars.  Or ALMS and Grand
Am or Euro Sports cars or Cart or Super Tourers or or or...I could go
on...my point, which I've almost forgotten is...
We don't need WSC to improve GPL, it's fine, the private sector can keep
it fresh for a while longer.  We don't need more modern F1 sims.  We don't
need another and another Nascar Sim.  We need Online Endurance racing where
teams of drivers can share the same car, we need American Open Wheel racing,
we need sedan racing(touring cars).  Hopefully the shipped version of WSC
will cover the Sportscars and the private sector can fill in the rest.

Will the GPL community suffer at the hands of WSC?

by Thom j » Sun, 17 Jun 2001 13:43:59

Dave, Everything you have stated is "O" so true! Sadly I feel we do not
have one [not one] really good F1 sim to date except GPL and this is a
piece of history that I lived thru! It was a great time for F1racing and so
many other genres of racing but we can't set ourselves into 1967 all the
time!
I love *all* motor racing! Even the Goofy riding lawn'mower races on
SpeedVision crack me up & if I were able I'd probably try it too!...lol
I wish we just had one new-good F1 or open-wheel sim to race! Icr2
was fantastic for me but I do not understand why F1' sims fall short in
one way or another.. I boggles my mind..
I hope WSC is everything it appears it's going to be and much more!
Only the final release will tell...eh? I still wish one of these PC gamer
companies would finally get at least one F1 sim right! It is frustrating
with so many "close but no cigar" F1 sims out now!! Phew!!
Cheers Thom_j.
P.S. Btw: I really liked F1RS too!! Yes DGF!! A Ubi Sim!! :o)~

Please ask this when WSC is actually out. Right now, this topic
is pure speculation and theory.
