I wish it were possible to have a program written so that a section of track
could be cut and looped to itself for practice.  Imagine going into the lesmos,
then out onto a straight away and then lo' and behold... the lesmos again!  No
more making your way around the track just to get to the section you want to
work on.  Oh well..wishful thinking but...

Great idea - wish it would be done. Hell I would just like to be able to
start a lap at speed at the "Ring" in GPL without having to drive all the
way around it every time. Blowing the first corner after a 9 minute tour
around the track is always cause for some serious mental anguish.

If you mean by that that you would like for the first lap to be timed, you
can do that.  You need to alter the track.ini file that is located in the
\tracks\nurburg directory of your GPL directory.  What you need to do is to
change the numbers in the lines that begin ...  Stall =, through Stall_19 =,
such that the pit stalls are located before the Start/Finish line instead of
after it.  I can't help you with that though since I don't know what a
workable set of coordinates are for that purpose.  But I know that others
have made such a change - maybe some kind sole will help you out.

You'll still have to start out on cold tires though.

Like most people I had the biggest problems with the 2nd lesmo too. So
instead of driving lap after lap, I drove through the 2nd lesmo,
turned around, drove back to the 1st lesmo, took the 2nd lesmo again,
and repeated this for oh... 200 times or so :)
But it helped a lot learning the 2nd lesmo!

This is called  "Savegame" option , and is present on various games
including the still excellent GP2.you could save just exiting Curva grande,
then load and drive it again and again.
I still didn't get why papyrus didn't include that on the game.
Rafael
PS:Don't tell me it's unrealistic on a game that has keyboard
driving,driving aids,F10 view,shift-r,etc.....Yes, the purists can drive
without all these if we want(and also  without the savegame option)

Actually you can EASILY change that. By changing the places of the
pitstalls. I have placed them just before the 2nd Karusell myself. Now,
when I start from the "pits", I have to drive about 1 minute untill the
startline, enough time to warm the tyres. Now, when I mess up the first
corner, I simply go back to the pits to fetch a new Lotus. Costed me 1
minute, instead of 9. Plus I drive the "Dottinger Hohe" (just before the
long straight) a lot more often, and that's good as I always had trouble
there.

You can ofcourse also place the pitstalls just before Bergwerk, if you want
to practise another part of the track over and over again.

If you want...

You can go around the Lesmos, then brake immediately after, go back on your
steps and do the Lesmos again ;-D

Wow!..I was having EXACTLY that thought, and precisely about the Lemos, too,
only yesterday!....Seems that the Lesmos is a common cause for anguish among
many
people......Yes,I think that would be really nice to have such  a tool,too....
Who knows...maybe in 3-6 months when the track editor has becom really
well developed and stable, and people have had some experience with it........

For over a year I have been waiting for one of the GPL track editing groups to do
the loop from the southern curve around the back of the pits.
This would be of huge benefit, saving having to do a full lap before starting a
timed lap ...which is exactly what happened in real life.

No doubt there is something preventing this, otherwise I'm sure it would have been
tackled by now.

To prevent having to lap the whole Nuerburgring for starting a timed
lap, just edit the track.ini and move the pit stall way behing the s/f
line (eg. on the main straight, or into any section you want to
practise) .

This is VERY unlikely to happen. The game is not made so you can shortcut
your way from one part to another. That's simply no feauture of the
GPL-trackengine.

I recommend changing pitstall-position (as explained elsewhere in this
thread) , which is in the end exactly the same, as you start your flying
lap 1 minute after leaving the pits with warm tyres. The only difference is
the part of the track you drive in the meantime.

Yes, sorry :-)

Add these lines to the Nurburg\Track.ini to replace the existing ones.
The first part is to let AI's speed up as soon as they cross s/f, otherwise
their first full (timed) lap is done in "out-lap" pace which is ~9:30, even
for Clark.
The second part defines the place of the pitstalls. The distances ("18030")
is the distance from s/f, these values give boxes before the 2nd Karusell.
If you want them anywhere else, experiment a little. The "-4.3" defines the
lateral distance from the center of the track. You don't want the cars to
be in the middle of the track, nor outside the fences :-)
This is halfway ON the track, half on the grass. Works OK.

Ofcourse you can do this on every track, but it's nowhere as useful as on
the Ring.
