Yes Thomas, I have SCGT. I do think it's ok but I do prefer
open***pit racing. I know you can set the view for a open
view and if I can ever get rid of 'Gpl Fever' I'll give SCGT a
serious try/effort. It's just I've had the Gpl bug since I got it!
To be honest though; When I got the Gpl demo I hated it &
was never going to buy it. On my old P-166 it ran like crap.
Well I moved up to a P2-266 & then it all started.
Now about $1500+ later and system that kicks I love Gpl!
So everytime I try to start other sims {& I have many} the
wrotten Gpl keeps calling & calling.. lol ;O)
I use to run Icr2 hours apon hours & now it is Gpl. That's
why I was wishing for Icr3 or Cart3 with the Gpl engine.I
have N2, SBK, ICR2, SCGT, Moto Racer2 {for fun}&
more but Gpl just has something that draws me back!
I raced 'motorcycles' professionally from 1968-74 and I
was sponsored by Harley Davidson. So I'll be anxiously
awaiting the new AMA Motorcycle Sim coming out but
I hope it is not another arcade type junk sim!? I do like
SBK a lot!! Anyway thanx for the email!!
Also I'm on Vroc daily and nighlty so if ya wanna race
just drop in. We have many from the UK and I know
you will enjoy our chats & racing......Cheers Thom_j.

No kidding.  Laguna is one of my favorite tracks, of course so is Portland,
Mid-Ohio and Road America, Road Atlanta too which SCGT didn't get right
either.

Seems pretty obvious that most respondents think SCGT has a bit
more realistic physics model and setup capability, but that TOCA2 has
better tracks.  The physics of both are pretty lame, and car setup
changes in SCGT do not act realistic at all.  TOCA2's physics is not
too different from NFS#, and its setup capability is very similar to
NFS#.  The track implementation in TOCA2 is much better than SCGT.
Fantasy tracks cannot be compared, of course, but it is true that
SCGT's Laguna Seca is pretty bad when compared to the real thing.
The graphics are both OK, and seem a wee bit better in TOCA2 as
far as colors, lighting effects, and weather effects are concerned.
The AI in both are similar - they are a lot better than N2 or ICR2, but
of course pale in comparison to GPL, like everything else.  Layout in
SCGT is a bit obscure, but is much friendlier than TOCA2 (I presume
that means the menu screen configurations).  I don't particularly enjoy
having to key (not click) through a bunch of repetitive menus to get
to  the race.  For example, the driver name in TOCA2 ought to be in the
option setups rather than an in-line option that you have to key past
every time.  Neither can compare to GPL for simplicity and
effectiveness.
Options? Both have them.  What does it matter when you access the
option setups only once or twice during a month of racing?
The gameplay in both is pretty good, and is a lot of fun.
Neither are particularly challenging, but I enjoy both when I just want
to kick back and go for a ride.  Again, being spoiled by GPL does not
diminish my enjoyment or appreciation of either of these, but with
their stupid and/or obstinate AI it just ain't as much fun during a
race as it is with the AI in GPL.  It simply is not as much work.

Neither are particularly challenging, but I enjoy both when I just
want to kick back and go for a ride.

I like it that you are finally willing to put your money where your
mouth is, unlike alot of the know-it-alls around here. So, how fast a
driver ARE you in Toca2 or GPL?? Its easier to be a 'statesman of ras'
than to actually produce times that mean anything  ..all these learned
opinions about handling from people who are several seconds off the
pace! Its a joke.

The ones who know the most about comparitive car handling are the
ones who are the most accomplished at driving. If you cantmanage
competitive levels in the game, then who are you to make catagorical
statements about the game (Thomas Ford, etc.etc.)??

Talk is cheap, opinions are a dime a dozen, ..and all this from
people who never mention their accomplishments behind the wheel!
Thats whats lopsided about this joint..  all this 'enlightenment' from
people who cant even drive properly.  You dont know what these games
are made of 'driving at the limit' ..you only know your OWN humble
limits, and the opinion thats results therefrom.

TOCA2 is excellent when racing in a LAN with my girlfriend. She will
have to practice many many hours in GPL before reaching my -not really
too high (but much experience in all sorts of simulation programs)-
standards, which will***her off, but TOCA is much fun driving
together.

What in my above statement is there to laugh at? It's the truth!

Viper Racing is daft!

Very dificult to define. Personally, I can not concider a simulator to
be a simulator without a detailed garage, like the ones in CART
Precision Racing, GPL, Viper Racing and SCGT.

But just because a racing game has a garage can not mean it is a
'simulator'. Toca 2 has a pathetic garage, and in Toca 1 it was non
existent. Would you concider Ultimate Race Pro a simulator because it
simulates car racing?

No it isn't. It would be wrong of me to comment on Laguna Seca if I
don't know about it. I've seen races on the television at Laguna Seca,
but I'm not entirely sure which sim gets as close to the real thing as
possible. You say it's SBK and I believe you.

I only with there were a REAL oval in SCGT. Perhaps we'll see an
N2/SCGT track converter one day, but I'm not holding my breath.

Has anybody ever attempted to create one for two entirely different
sims, made by two entirely different companies?

Did you remove nospam from my e-mail address?

Did you have a decent 3D accelerator, such as a Voodoo2? That would
have sped things along a bit.

What type of motorcycle? I own a small motorcycle which gets me from A
to B, as well as my car. I used to race motorcycles at an off-road
motorcycle club, but I haven't done it in a few years.

I look forward to it!

Actually, when you spend time tweaking the garage setups in SCGT for a
while, you WILL notice quite a difference in car performance. Not
quite on the same level as GPL mind you, which was aparent from the
very start of a race.

Switch on wet track effects in SCGT and then come back and say that
the lighting and weather effects in SCGT aren't better than they are
in Toca 2.

You're right there!

After spending most of last night playing SCGT I am beginning to
notice flaws in its design. However, I still find it to be one of the
most enjoyable and realistic simulators on the PC.

You either stayed up past your bedtime or are living in a dream world.  I

Hey Randy, I've been playing SCGT for awhile now and I have no clue what the
real Laguna Seca track is like.  Can you describe what is different?  Thanks
man!

The car(s?) in Viper Racing handle no where near as well as they do in
SCGT, especially when run in Arcade mode.
