F1GP Canadian circuit

As I was practising the Canadian circuit, I noticed that the first chicane
(after the left-right combination, just past the start-finish line) could be
taken in high 4th, low 5th gear. This appears to be much faster than the cars
did in actual race, although I'm not sure. Any comments?

This is right. I noticed the samething from the in-car camera during the
Canadian GP. The left turn leading to the first gear right hander after the
start finish line was taken in 2nd gear in the real race whereas you can
scream past it in 6th cutting down to 2nd as you approach the right hander in
F1GP. The first chicane that comes up can be taken in 4th or 5th depending
upon your setup as you mentioned. Maybe there were some changes made to the
circuit after the game came out. Not sure...

The first left hander looked much steeper from aerial shots than it is in
F1GP, maybe they've changed that (more run off area and slower turn =
safer).  I usually take the chicane after that left-right thing flat out
on 6th gear.  Aren't chicanes normally used to slow down the traffic;-)
It can be done with D- or Q-tires and correct setup.  If tank is full
(beginning of 100% race) I'll take it on 5th gear.

It is not the gear that actually matters, as you may be using completely
different gear ratios to the real life cars - it is the speed that is
important.  However, I think a part of the circuit before that chicane
has been changed to slow cars down.  I not sure if this is the part
of circuit in question, but Martin Brundle did get some changes made to the
circuit.

The circuit was in fact changed this year.  An extra chicane was put it to
slow cars down, for safety reasons.

Yes, the circuit was changed before the race.  The additional chicane was
added to reduce the speed in the following turn.  Following the deaths of
Senna and Ratzenberger (sp?) the drivers have been requesting changes to
circuits to make them safer.

Yes, but that's a little _before_ the start/finish straight.  The
chicane in question is a little _after_ it.  It's possible that the
circuit has changed since the game was put together, of course.
Another thing to remember is that the cars are now running with
significantly less downforce than those modeled in the game, so some
corners will be much slower (lap times are maybe 6 seconds down on
those in achievable in the game).

My little brother has also observed some differences between the
circuits on the Amiga and PC versions.

[BTW, that new chicane looks a lot better than the one they added in
Spain, which looked downright evil to me!]

Waiting eagerly for F1GP v2 (and ready to buy a 486 if it needs it!),

Hi,
despite the other postings, what you say is correct, **and** it DOESN'T have
anything to do with Martin Brundle's recently designed temporary chicane. I
think that the game is, and has always been incorrect, in that MPS need some
way of fiddling the circuits such that the lap times are correct, and this is
one of them.
Cheers, Gareth Marlow
