Can anyone help with a problem a freind of mine has encountered running
GP2 with a 2Mb Matrox Mystique card.

When switching between video modes i.e. from car setup to driving the
video is lost entirely (about 1 in 6 times).  Has anyone else
encountered the same problem ?

Your friend is lucky, because the mystique don't want to start in vesa
mode on my system :-(

Yep, I get the same problem. It seems it doesn't like swapping between VGA
and SVGA. I've found that starting GP2 with no intro helps (type GP2 /? at
the command line to find out how to do this). Also, leaving the gfx set to
VGA and then changing in game to SVGA each time you load seems to avoid the
problem. Lets hope Matrox/Microprose sort this one out!

How does the Mystique work with GP2 and what CPU are you using?

Me too!!! What is going on? Do you have any idea? This is a major
headache, cos one of the reasons I got the mystique was to improve GP2
performance. I don't think it has anything to do with the mystique's
3d acceleration (Bus mastering can cause applications to choke)
because I switched it all off and vesa still wouldn't load. Vga runs
like greased lightening, though.

Andrew

Dear Andrew

Saw your news message about Mystique and GP2 - thought you might be able
to help me as I (to my horror!) can't get the game to run at all.

System is :
   Pentium Pro 200
   Mystique graphics
   AWE 32 sound
   Samsung (PnP) 17 GLi monitor

In DOS mode, trying to run the game gets to the autohr credit then hangs
the system, monitor instantly going into sleep mode. Only way to get
beyond this is from the game to deselect the sound card - but then there
is no sound!

Any ideas?

Regards - Melv.

Ooh, aah, Pentium Pro and Gp2!!! I'm jealous! :-)
Looks like exactly the same problem that I had. It was suggested to
me that I start the game by typing 'GP2 nointro'. This disables the
intro and the mystique doesn't have to switch from VGA to SVGA (which,
apparantly, it does not like doing). This has worked every time so
far, and with fingers crossed.
Cheers,
Andrew

Try this: "gp2 -nointro".  I had a similar problem with my system (166,
Mystique) and that was the only way I could get it to run.  It seems (though
this is not proven) that the Mystique had/has a problem switching from VGA
->SVGA.

Hope this helps.

Cyrix P150+ with 16mb of RAM, and it runs very well, much better than my
housemate's P133 runs it. For example, full detail and most textures on in
SVGA at Imola give processor occupancies of around about 133-150%. With
wingmirrors and some of the less important textures off my frame rate
estimate is 23! Very pleased, and will be more pleased when the bug is
sorted out!
