Joystick stops being connected.

by Gary & Christine Whela » Tue, 29 Dec 1998 04:00:00

Hi folks

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder 3d gamepad and in
both MGPRS2 and GPL the joystick disables itself after
a couple of laps as if it was never connected.
Any suggestions??

Many Thanks

Do you have an on-board sound card - on the motherboard, not a separate
card? I had this same behavior with my on-board sound, and it nearly drove
me crazy in GPL. Sometimes I could race for a long time before it would
happen, sometimes on the first lap, sometimes never. I am using a simple CH
flightstick joystick - nothing fancy. I now have a separate card for sound
and disabled the on-board, and have not had the problem one time.

I could never find a solution with the on-board sound, but I discovered that
I could make it recognize the joystick again without having to reboot. I
would quit GPL, go to Properties of MyComputer, on the Device Manager tab,
do a Refresh.
