but I've finally beaten the Papy benchmark at Monza.
Hadn't played GPL for ages, then yesterday afternoon I improved
chassis times at Mosport/Coventry and Monaco/Eagle (short-shifting
helped lots with the latter one, only letting that glorious V12 wind
out properly in 4th) and today I ran a test session at Monza with the
Ferrari, then switched to the Lotus and finally beat my old Eagle time.
This time, following some reports I've read on real-life drivers and
their setup style, I've been setting the damping mostly to 1 and just
increasing maybe one of the settings (must go and read one of the
setup guides on damping...)
Hmmm, running setups like 2+1/1+1 goes against Nunnini's advice,
although it does line up with the way GP2 used to work for hotlapping
(I only ran significant values of damping for racing, then, since it
seemed to improve tyre wear). Maybe I'll try a baseline setting of
2 next time out... that seems to fit with most of the info I've got!
I've also been playing with asymmetric camber to try to make better
use of the tyres, but it's always been quicker when I return to a
setup which allows the car to stop in a straight line ;-)
(and here I seem to be in full agreement with Nunnini.)
Happy racing, everyone!
