appeared anywhere. I posted through mho*** at around 3 pm, and again
through google around 10 pm. Both times I think my "transitioned"
internet provider - Comcast - was at fault. Things are looking better
today so I'm going to try one more time. Please forgive me if the other
two posts eventually show up also. ;o)
========
I stayed home from work today because I wasn't feeling well (I guess the
holidays finally caught up to me), so of course what's better to do,
when you are feeling too sick to go anywhere, than play GPL? I jumped
in the Eagle and practiced at Monza for a while, and after a few laps
started getting the same 1:31.xx times that I have been seeing for the
last month or so. Based on GPLRA I knew that I needed to work on low
speed corner exits, so I concentrated on that some more and managed to
rip out a few high 1:30.xx laps. Good, but still not as good as my PB
which was 1:30.50. So I watched a few replays and realized that,
although my braking points weren't off by much, I could probably refine
them a little, and since I wasn't progressing much on corner exits, why
not work on braking points? I realize that most people would say that
is the last thing you need to work on, and that is why I haven't paid
them much attention, but with continued practice my braking distances
have decreased a lot lately, so I started moving them slowly up. Well I
ran about two laps in the 1:50's because I blew the entry to the Curva
Grande so badly, then a 1:32, them OMG a 1:29.89!!!! I lost my
composure so badly I blew the next lap and quit. I did have the
presence of mind to save the replay, and looking at it in GPLRA I still
don't understand how I did it. I was a few mph low in most of the right
handers, but I outbraked the Papy replay at every corner and made up the
difference that way. And this after months of working on corner entry
and exit speeds and only occasionally getting below 1:31. Well anyway I
am looking forward to being able to get some consistency in to what I
have learned, because I think that if I could somehow put some good
corners together with the better braking, I could get into the 1:28's.
OTOH, now that I am below the Papy benchmark I will probably instead go
work on Watkins Glen (1:07.xx) or Silverstone or Kyalami, for both of
which I am floating along at around 107%. Anyway, it took nearly 6
months, but I finally did it!! Now pat me on the back please. ;o)
