and while I can't help you directly, I can say I've seen a lot of
postings like this about this card. Also I've heard "hardware" stores
tell me they've stopped carrying Diamond over this card. Computer ***
World, when discussing video cards (in its Dec. issue, I think) pointed
out something similar and says manufacturers are shying away from
supporting this particular chip. It may be more true about earlier
boards than recently manufactured ones, but you just bought yours. Of
course many people have no trouble at all, I'm sure, and perhaps one of
them knows some little thing you're doing wrong..wrong drivers etc......I
couldn't say, given no experience with the card.
I know that if I were you, I'd return the board, get a refund, and either
buy the ATI Graphix Xpressions (slightly cheaper, equal Windows , faster
DOS speed, and better driver software UNLESS you're into CK, in which
case I'd scrape up the money for a Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM card, which
uses the S3 968 chip and has an excellent reputation (fastest commonly
avail. card going, too, for Windows, except the MGA Matrox Millenium.)Of
course you can always wait for the soon-to-arrive 3D wave....
If you do get it sorted out, I'd appreciate a posting or e-mail about
what happened. Good luck :-).
