There always seems to be alot of discussion comparing driving a
real racing car and a sim.  For those who say a modern F1 car is
easy to drive may I remind you of a little publicity stunt the
Williams team got involved in a couple years back.

They invited Mick Doohan and (I think) Colin Mcrae to drive a
few laps in the Williams F1 car.  Both arguably the best in the
world at their form of motorsport yet neither got round a lap
before shunting the Williams.

If I had to make a list of people in the world who i thought
could handle an F1 car I'm sure they would have been near the
top.

I seem to recall McCrae swapping cars with Brundle, not driving a Williams.

McCrae actually drove quite well under the circumstances and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think McCrae crashed the car at all. He did, however, manage to stall it once I think. IIRC, he was within a couple of seconds of Brundle's time. Not bad for a beginner :)

Anyone remember where? I think it was Silverstone.

Maybe he was having a flashback to his Rally driving style.  Those gravel
traps must look awfully tempting to powerslide through...

Even Michael Andretti, with prior Indy car racing experience didn't
fare much better.

Anybody can drive an F1 car SLOWLY...

If the games could tailor the ai so as to match the speed of the player,
everyone would be happy.

I remember that.  Like Martin Brundle's big one at the start of the Oz GP a
few years ago!

Mike.
