A few general sim questions

by mark jeangerar » Mon, 22 Jul 2002 15:28:40

1. Concerning new vid cards I've seen the term, "T&L". What would that be?

2. Where are you guys getting the F12002 demo?

3. Who won the GPL clock at Goodwood? Were there organized races? Who won
those? Did any pros drive it?

It is built-in hardware on the new video cards called Transformation and
Lighting that allows the developers to include cool new video effects
without bogging down the CPU of your system, since the video card performs
the operations.  A good non-sim example of T&L in practice is the water
effects in Morrowind--simply gorgeous (looks real) and doesn't affect your
FPS or CPU usage at all.

Do a search on http://www.google.com/ for "F1 2002 demo" and you should come
up with several sites.

Not sure about this one.

It wasn't possible to time the hill climb course in GPL so no-one won.

There were a couple of organised demo races. The main one was on Sunday and
featured Rick Osborn, Barty Mee, Andy Wilke (all -80 handicaps or below) and
Ant Miller, Glen Field and Niels at home (sorry I don't know hos surname,
only his VROC name. The race was at Spa. Rick led for most of the race but
Andy managed to get a tow down the hill towards Masta and pulled off a
fantastic pass. It was nearly at the stage where they were going to go 2
wide through Masta but Andy somehow managed to get through before that was
needed.

There were no pros who raced although Ralf Schumacher made a 2 minute
appearance at the tent to sign autographs. We did manage to get three of the
Wacky Racers to have a race at Monza though.
