It shows that your memory is full, and for every one second you save
just now you are losing one second from the beginning of your replay.

Cheers!

I thought it was there to indicate slow motion?! With the red circle up
there, clicking on the play button once will make it disappear and the
replay runs at normal speed. Clicking on it again will bring back the circle
and, well, put the replay into slow motion mode.

I've only seen the red circle in the replay on my office machine, never
on the home machine. I assumed it to mean that the allotted memory for
the replay was full and that newer replay was overwriting older portions
of the replay.

And why exactly do you have GPL in your office Mr. Trips?

It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.

I have 128MB on the home rig, which I assume is why I've only seen the
red circle on the office box... it only has 64MB RAM and can't save a
very long replay without overwriting.

I've got 128MB, too, and I've seen the red circle a couple of times. It
might have been after an hour long practice session, but I can't recall
for sure.

That is basically correct.  The replay system uses a circular tape.  When
the tape is full, the record head will erase the beginning of the tape to
make room for the new data that is being recorded.  If the play head
happens to be at the beginning of the tape, the record head will push the
play head along.  When this occurs, the red circular arrow is displayed so
there is a visual indication that this is happening.

A useful trick ( for the Mb deficient) for viewing tapes that you think
you may want make permanent is to hit the pause just after you leave the
track. This prevents the recorder from continueing on ( recording your empty
pit stall) while you review the laps you just made. No red circle and your
shining moments are still available to pass around to all your pals :).
Useful in any configuration that lets you pause.
