GPL and win2000 no go?

GPL used to work just fine under win9x but since upgrading to win2000, no
way.

When it starts I sometimes see the opening splash screen for .5 second
(othertimes just black) then it trows me back to the desktop. Does this with
a fresh install or after patching. I've tried this with Software rendering
and hardware (editing the ini files), no change. I've disabled my soundcard
(removed it), no change.

My win2k is SP2 latest nvidia drivers (tnt2) & sound (all drivers are up to
date), nothing I do seems to make any diference

I don't have any issues with any other games (and I run a lot of them). I
hear others have this running fine under Win2000, how?

If you copied all of your gpl files to a cd and then copied them back onto
your hd you might have all of the attributes set to read only.  Same thing
happened to me.

I just got the original cd out and did a fresh install (after uninstalling
the mess I had). First run I see the splash screen for about 1 second then
it just crashes back to the desktop.

So I install the 1.2 patch (gpl_1201.exe), try again, same thing. Install
the direct 3d patch and the same thing, nothing I do makes any difference.

I'm going to try directx 8a now, I'm not very confident. People say this
runs under w2k, I'd like to see it.
