I waited anxiously for the release in the local theater, and did truly enjoy
it (even with our planetarium-distorted view). But I think the story line
parts are highly throw-away. Would have far preferred doubling, or trebling,
the amount of on-track and in-car time and dumping campfires and restoration
scenes.
The sound from in-car seemed to me to be extremely synthesized/enhanced. It
doesn't roar/whoosh like that as you pass overheads and other cars, does it? I
found that disappointing (then again, perchance it is real, I'd switch to
"it is amazing!").
Yes, I bought the DVD, one of my first. You can get it through www.buy.com
(go to videos). Also available at chains like Media Play. In many ways, the
making of feature is superior to the feature itself. Just about as long, and
concentrates on the technical aspects. With many shots of the behemoth camera
on track. So I *do* recommend the video to all racing fans. Though it could
have been far better.
Also, I just picked up "in car 956" from a net-sale. It's been talked about
here before. Amazing footage of Derek Bell driving a works Porsche 956
at speed around some of our favorite tracks (the 'ring Nordshleife, Lemans,
Spa, Silverstone...). To bad it isn't on or of DVD quality. If so, it would
have rated higher than Speedway.

My exact thoughts as well. It does sound great, but it just has to be
fake or enhanced.

Don't know about where you all saw it, but I had an even cooler
experience- they had the actual car they restored in the film
on display at the exit to the theatre! A total surprise. After seeing it
in the film I just stood there and stared. A truly awesome experience.
However, to answer the at-hand question: It should be available at
and good DVD dealer Suncoast, Saturday Matinee, etc.. Look
in the 'Special Interest' section of the store, keeping an eye for
other IMAX converted film...

Don't have a DVD player yet...one in the mail...
Get this...about two or three years ago, when it first came out, I was in
Fontana, CA for the CART race...so I went to Ontario Mills to see a preview
of the then-under-construction Arizona Mills...and went into the IMAX
theater to watch Super Speedway. Got about 20 minutes into it...it
stopped...some fruity music playing in the background...then 10 minutes
later they come and tell us it's busted. You know when I finally saw it in
its entirety? When it finally came to the Arizona Science Center about the
middle of last year.
