Well, I sure gave it a wide berth and a good look on the first lap, then
tried the less daunting Schwalbenschwanz first... ;-)

Driving the Karrussel in the banking is awesome... nothing in GPL prepared
me for the experience. It can be done in a normal car, but watch for the
bump near the end... I think I damaged my power steering on it.

Ohhhhh, to live near the 'Ring.  <sigh>  I don't know what the exchange
rate is, but if it's close to 1:1 I'd drop $1,000 on a year pass in a
heart-beat.

If that's US$ you're talking about, I have to disappoint you: it's more like
US$ 400.

Of course, you're on a bike, so you'd have to pay a little extra.  'Cause it
takes longer to scrape you off the armco.  Still, nothing close to US$
1,000.

US$400 for the year?!?!?  Holy cow that's cheap.  I'm in agony here.

Hehe...  Maybe I'm too land on the armco.  Maybe I'm so good they'd
have to scrape me off the bridge over Aremberg! :-P

If you go to the ring, make sure you book a ride in the
"Renntaxi" where a (mostly) professional race driver takes you
on a fast lap (tickets per seat start at DM80 per lap, I think)
around the "Nordschleife". Its fun running the ring on your
own, but being a passenger with a pro is simply breathtaking
and has to be experienced to be believed.

Cheers,

uwe

Our instructor told us to "just drop into it on the 2nd tile" and
use the additional downforce from the banking to keep the thing
on the road. It sounds funny, but even the "compression" you
get taking "Karussell" in a rented Fiat Punto is great!

Sounds like good fun! Now how about for DM10 more, you get the replay
on floppy. ;-)
(no actually, this is a serious idea for karting laps, but well,
that's a whole other story)

Yikes! Seems my newsagent is making me revive zombie threads. Old

Book it early, ie well before your trip.  I've been told that it sells out
very quickly, maybe even months in advance?  I know that it was all booked
when I went there.  It consists of a lap in a specially prepared 5-series
driven by a pro (last, there was a fetching lass who apparently grew up around
there and held some records), with up to 3 paying guests.  I believe it is a
fixed price, split amongst the number of passengers.
