Motherboards and DMA (Tyan verses Asus)

by HandyAn » Fri, 03 Jan 1997 04:00:00

Over the last three weeks I have had the opportunity to install and
benchmark a Tyan VX, and Tyan Tomcat IIID, and an Asus p55t2p4 board
in my system with the Intergraph reactor card.  The Tyan cards where
significantly slower for DMA transfer rates than the Asus board.  I
was getting around 39Mb/sec with the Tyan boards and up to 109Mb/sec
with the Asus.  The overall performance was almost identical with
traditional benchmarks like Winbench97, etc...  So I am very happy
with the Asus board.  BTW... I was getting 80+ Mb/sec with just the
factory defaults in BIOS on the Asus, and with the PCI latency timer
bummed up a hair, it jumped to the 109 indicated earlier.
