Voodoo2 SLI ?

by dafn » Fri, 30 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I need some advice about adding a 2nd Diamond monster Voodoo2 card to
achive SLI mode.  I have a  P2 300 machine .  Will I be able to
maintain  the same framerate above 800*600 in SLI mode as I achieve
now with 1 Voodoo2 card at 800*600 ?  Thanks.

If you decide to go with a 2nd Monster II, check out:
www.diamondmm.com/products/current/megamonster.cfm first. It looks like you
can add the equivalent to another 12 MB Monster II for $149.95 or an 8 MB
one for $99.00. I don't know what kind of performance you will get though.
Has anyone tried the MegaMonster?

Actually GPL is unusual in that you can run it at 1024x768 with your one
card. Even with P2 300, your Voodoo2 is being bottlenecked by the processor
so you may find upping the CPU to be more cost-effective. (Could even be
free if you can overclock it.)GPL also allows an inbetween resolution of 9
something by 720 which I used when I had a single card. It's a very good
compromise. If you are going to add a card, it's worth noting that you can
mix 8Mb and 12Mb Monsters. However, I had no luck trying to mix a Monster 8
with a generic 12.

MGPRS2   I am happy with GPL and 800*600 but was more interested in
seeing MGPRS2 and EA sports titles in higher resolutions

You should have said so! MGPRS doesn't support 1024x768 in SLI. They are
aware that this is an issue and, if possible, it will be fixed with the
first patch. If you want to see MGPRS at 1024, you'll need  a Banshee. I've
tried it and, while it looks slightly nicer, I noticed the drop in framerate
