Yes, but the problem isn't with the benchmark & it's apparent
smoothness, but rather with the choppy gameplay. I had about the same
trouble on my P2 400 with a single 12 meg voodoo 2 (getting estimated
50 frames at 640x480 with all detail on). Any time the joystick was
used for steering, lots of chop resulted.
Solution? I upgraded from the DirectX-5 3dfx reference drivers to the
newest (October) beta 2 of the 3dfx voodoo2 DirectX6 drivers. Problem
solved in Viper as well as NFS3. Doesn't make sense, but it works, so
I won't complain too much :-)
