An idea for producing GP3

I've downloaded some superb tracks from www.gp2.com, and it suddenly
struck me that the 'afficianados' who are willing to recreate tracks in
minute detail would be the perfect people to design the tracks for GP3.
After all, Crammond does everything in the game, with the exception of
the menus and stuff, so it must get pretty tiring at some points. Papy
have a whole team to do the artwork and design the stuff, so why doesn't
Geoff get a load of guys on Usenet to do the tracks. Most of us would do
it for free I'm certain. Well, I would!

Any thoughts?

Geoff doesn't do it all on he's own, he has a team of workers, under his comand,
though he does most stuff. The people who design the tracks aren't
proffessionals, they are just people doing them in there spare time, like you or
me. And I doubt they would do it for free. GP3 is reported to come out in
December 1998, so I'll look forward to it, especially as it'll be the last! GP2
was mean't to be the last, but because of presure from the press they brought
the launch forward, which is why it didn't get the weather, and comentary - not
that I mind about the comentary.

I think its true that generally at least, and even more often than not,
that the enthusiasts produce better looking artwork than original product
manufactures. This does seem a bit odd as you'd expect the professionals to
have more expertise, better resources, better/more hardware and software.
Yet the amateurs still very often put the professionals to shame in  this
area.

I thought that Pay did a short while ago advertise on this newsgroup for
capable people with a demonstrated ability at making car sim stuff. If my
recollections are correct then it would seem that at least one manufactor
has already appreciated the talent in the sim newsgroups.

Cheers.

If the people designing the tracks aren't professionals and they are
doing it in their spare time, then they are amateurs.  But if they are
not doing it "for free", and are getting paid for the work, then they
are professionals.

Out for Xmas 1998?   I'll believe *that* when I see it on the shelves!!

I'm confused !  (Not an unusual state I am told <G>)

I was under theimpression that Geoff no longer had the rights to F1.  I
thought that the FIA had sold them to Ubisoft and that was the reason that
GP2 was no longer being produced.

Please tell me what I have missed.

Yes.  For a fascinating description of how this type of approach can work,

LOL. I was wondering what you would have to say but this was a
suprise!

Yes, maybe he meant Xmas 1999? If not, Papy may be a little
concerned!

Well, the most obvious reason is that the amateurs do it because they *love*
doing it, while professional often do it because it's their *job*! Sometimes the
two coincide and result in masterpieces, sometimes they don't....

comentary

I thought is was late.  I had it pre-ordered and had to wait about 6
months after the supposed release date because it wasn't ready.  Geoff
wasn't happy with it.

Even though they are a lot of great tracks done by these people, there
are a lot of bad ones too.  Most of them work hard and make a good
job.  It's not an easy thing to do accurately.

I think he means they brought it forward from when it would be released if
it where finished.  If they waited that long, we still might not have it
:-)
