DNS stands for Domain Name Service.
That's how your computer knows where to look to find a webpage, ftp server, or
any other resource on the net.  You have to be able to 'resolve' the path.  If
your system(or one in between) doesn't know how to get to the destination, you
get the 'not found' error.  Sometimes typing in the site address(numbers) will
work when the numbers don't.  Sometimes(as in this case for me) the same
website typed as a 'root' worked, whereas the page originally given couldn't be
found by my computer.  I'm sure I've made it sound more confusing than it
is...sorry.

Oh, I know what DNS is and how it works.
But server path? There aren't really any server paths in DNS,
except the one from root-server to authorative server. But that
is not something you set up.
Are you confusing DNS and routing perhaps?
