No engine sounds in N2002

I'm having some problems with the sound in Nascar 2002. With all the sound
options turned on correctly I can only hear the spotter chief talking. No
engine sounds from either my computer or the AI cars.

Using a Santa Cruz soundcard and Windows ME.
