Perhaps this is due to the car itself. When driving you're using up
more fuel, which in turn makes the car lighter, which increases speed
and acceleration. Also, the more you drive the warmer your tyres
become, and the warmer they are the more they will stick to the track.

Were those 1:06's done with the default setup?  If so, I don't see HOW...

How?  Everytime I try to go faster in the turns, the car pushes BADLY.  Or, are
you going through turns at opposite-lock?  I have YET to figure *that* out...

1:06.84 with the DEFAULT Eagle?  Could you send me a replay?  I'd like to see
where I'm losing almost FOUR seconds a lap... :(

I will crank out a replay for you and let you know where to find it.  I may
have one I can snip out of a Pro Long GPLWS race for you.  Yes, this is with
the default setup.

I am sure it is partly to do with fuel but much of the improvement comes
with concentrating on being consistent lap after lap.  As I get more
comfortable, I can push more and more in the corners and the lap times just
come down.  Keeping the car under you really helps lap times as well
because, as you said, tire temps play a very big part.  It takes about 3
laps before I can get into the 1:06-07 range.

At this point, my braking points are what I would have considered impossibly
late a few months ago.  You need a comfort level with the track first.  Lap
after lap after lap...  Since racing in the GPLWS, my lap times are much
improved.  I am more familiar with the Eagle at all of the tracks now and
the familiarity translates to lower lap times at all of them because I know
how the car will react in certain situations etc.   I know it seems
difficult and :06's seems a long way off but I went from running 1:09's and
thinking I found my limit to running 1:06's in the course of about 15 laps
in one evening while practicing for the GPLWS event last season.

Just make sure you keep it on the track and keep drivin'!

J.

PS. I went hunting for replay and I must have deleted them all! :-(  I will
run around the Glen one night soon and cut another one for you.  Sorry.

Wolfgang Woeger has a 1:04.02 at Watkins Glen in an Eagle! And his record (in
a Lotus) is 1:03:61 - http://216.13.117.36/~schubi/fastlaps.htm

Dumb question - how do you change the steering ratio in each car?  I seem to
have MISSED that setting...I just don't see it.  I don't mean the steering
linearity, which affects the whole game, just the one on the car.

You mean the steering lock? Go the garage... it's at the top right of
the screen.

I've had GPL for about 3 weeks and have just managed a 1:07:88 at Watkins
Glen in the Brabham with the default setup. Maybe I was just lucky but I
can do 1:08 's fairly often. The only change I made was to reduce the fuel
to about 8 gallons.

Cheers, Handy.

Ok, I ran about 53 laps yeterday.  Previously, my PB was 1:08.54.  After 53
laps, I improved to...1:08.46.  Big change, huh - .08 sec?  I hate to THINK how
many laps it will take to get to 1:06's.  Obviously more than 15... :)
Frustrating isn't the WORD for it.
I'd say my average is about 1:09.50 - 1:10.20.

I hate you with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns... :-)

BTW, anybody remember what movie/show that was from?
