One problem(?) in Grand Prix Legends

Hello, I've been playing GPL since we got it in the store at CompUSA.
However I'm having one problem (besides all the problems of driving ON the
track and not spinning around at the least bit of oversteer).. Anyway.. When
I do get off track, like out in the grass next to a fence or something and I
try to get back started.. When I try to just start off in 1st gear (just
using Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick and/or Keyboard controls [Certified
Keyboard junkie]) it wont stick but will revert back and forth to Neutral
(kinda funny seeing my arm jerking back and forth over and over trying to
get in gear).. but once i finally creep semiclose to the track it will stay
in gear. Anyone else have this problem? THis is VERY annoying.. maybe I am
doing something wrong. Help!

Just wondering.. are you using "automatic" transmission??

If you are, it may go to neutral to automatically avoid excessive wheel
spin. (don't know for sure as I've NEVER tried gpl with any helps on!)

Try manual transmission and see if it does the same thing.

Other than the above tip, I've never heard of this.

Problem was solved by switching of the traction (accelerate) help.
Never seen it again.
BTW: car was not drivable without the right amount of slip at the rear
tires.
