Grand Prix Legends Install Problem

by WNAZ » Wed, 06 May 1998 04:00:00

Judging by the number of posts concerning lap times and the physics model, I am
writing about a problem that I am sure many of you have already overcome!!  I
downloaded the GPL demo and followed all of the appropriate directions for
installation.  Everytime, I launch the program (from the Sierra\GPLDEMO
directory) the following occurs;

I.  After a rather lengthy load time, the program immediately jumps from the
title screen to the second screen listing game options, but then almost
instantaneously jumps to the joystick calibration screen.

II.  You briefly catch a glimpse of the screen prior to the calibration screen
that show "optimized input" selected as opposed to the "direct input".

III.  The joystick calibration screen is going haywire, with values floating
all over the place.  I have a T2 with adapter connected to a Thrustmaster ACM
adjustable speed gamecard.  The calibration options screen recognizes steering
and brakes. The other axis' are unknown and/or not labeled.

IV.  If you turn the T2 Wheel or press the pedals, you will see variations in
the already crazy calibration numbers being registered on the screen.  However,
the moment you press any button (e.g.  the "OK" button), the system either
completely locksup or dumps GPL and defaults back to my Windows 95 interface.

Please..........any insights on how to overcome this problem would be
appreciated. I really want to drive the Glen!

It sounds like you may either have a bad DirectX 5.0 install or either a
bad calibration in Win95.  Try re-installing DirectX 5.0 and try using
Thrustmaster's ProPanel
ftp://208.129.210.78/pub/library/calibration/propanelv11.exe
