Looking for any really cool racing games...........

Anyone know of any really cool racing games other than Need for Speed????
I've been looking for other racing games that are just as good as Porsche
Unleashed.  I've only found only one and that even comes close, Colin McRae
Rally 2.  It almost as fun, except you can't install addon cars like Porsche
Unleashed.  I've got a ton of addon cars for Porsche Unleashed and that's
the only thing that has kept playing it fun.  Colin McRae Rally 2 has
excellent car physics just like Porsche Unleashed though.

Just recently I've gotten Grand Prix Legends to work, but that's really old.

I've been waiting for World Sports Cars to come out, but who knows when
that's gonna happen???  I emailed the company's tech support and even they
didn't have a clue as to when it might be.......

F1 2000 sucks.  All you have to do is press the accelerator and let it drive
for you..... And GrandPrix 3 is well, old..

Does anyone have any suggestinons of what other racing games are hot???  Oh,
and are there any that would really use a Geforce 3 card???

Thanks,

Jeff

I have to stop you right there and say, give GPL another chance.  Did you
download any of the car or track updates?  Did you download andy of the 100+
tracks?  Probably not.

In my opinion, GPL with all the graphics updates is the best looking sim
there is.  I suggest you visit my beginner's guide at
http://www.legendscentral.com/gplintro.shtml and check out some of the
downloads listed.

I highly recommend that you use the latest D3D patch and get the JF car set
from http://jfcarsets.cjb.net/ together with the latest Eagle update,
released this week at http://www.sportplanet.com/gpl/

You should also download the 16 bit track updates from
http://www.btinternet.com/~marc.kasairoyal/TrackUpdates/

Once you have these installed you should realise that GPL isn't all that old
after all.

Cheers

Phil

Thanks for posting, I bought GPL years ago and was thinking about getting
back into it. This is just what I needed.

<snip>

If you like rally games, then try Rally Masters. Or wait a couple of
weeks and try Rally Trophy. (Or download the demo if you've got a
superfast connection.)

See Phil Lee's post... :-D

Your asking for trouble hinting the slightest thing negative about GPL.
Remember
where your at,  rec.autos.GPL. simulators. I agree nothing out their is
really
spectacular N4 is about the best IMO and GPL follows and after that
well..........
GPL does look good after about 2 thousand and forty seven graphic updates
and
several patches. N4  looks and runs good basically out of the box. I too
wish for WSC.
The auto sim world seems to be at a lull. Have your tried the Rally Trophy
Demo its pretty good.

Get Nascar Heat cheap, then dload a bunch of road courses then add the DTM
mod and your set til WSC comes out.

Are you kidding?  You must have steering and braking help turned on in F1 2000.
In *that* mode it would suck.  And, GP3 is newer than NFS:PU, isn't it?

Try GPL, GP3 2000 Season and Nascar 4. Those are among the coolest racing
games. Their age is irrelevant until there is no hardware anymore that they
will run on.

If you like add-ons, then besides Nascar Heat mentioned in another post, you
might enjoy Sports Car GT by EA. It's been out for a few years so it isn't
about to stress test a GeForce3 Titanium card, but there's a huge number of
add-on cars and stuff folks have made. You'll probably like the physics as
they are (they're certainly as good as PU), but for extra realism, there's a
physics patch too. Try starting at http://www.speedsims.com for downloads.
The game itself has been re-released as a 'budget' or 'classic' title I
think. Have fun...

"And, GP3 is newer than NFS:PU, isn't it?"

I doubt it.....Need for Speed Porshce Unleahed came out after Diretx 7.
It's required.  GP3 might have come out after Need for Speed High
Stakes though....

I'm guessing that SCGT will hold you over until the next thing that
interests you comes out. It's older but you can really modify the heck out
of it. A lot of everything has been made for it. That should satisfy your
add-on requirements... for a game that's already been out a while, that is.

GPL has two things going for it that you may like:

1. A LOT of excellent tracks.

2. It is exactly the opposite of "Press the accelerator and let it drive for
you."

On the other hand, if you like PU physics, then....  is NICE 2 out yet?

Of course Eldred,  EVERYBODY knows GP3 is actually 7 years old, it's just
World Circuit with a new box ......

My recomendations are 2 sims that have been tried and tested, as well
as updated like mad by online community.  Both offer plenty of online
league racing and dont require a Cable Modem to take part in the
online racing.

Grand Prix Legends

NAscar Heat (I hate nascar but....)

Both of these games have very low system requirements, but have the
advantage of large community support.

GPL has now more than 100 tracks available (comes with 11)
GPL has incredible physics which still serve as the benchmark for all
others.  GPL has a huge on-line racing community and very liitle
problems handling a field of 20 online driverrrs at the start of a
race. The graphics updates are absolutely incredible for GPL. Tracks
come out almost on a weekly basis.
I paid $ 15 for my copy of GPL.
Best place for starting a search for GPL add ons is:
http://gplpp.com/
also try the ultimate GPL Links page:
http://www.noctua.f2s.com/links.html

NAscar Heat.  Also low system requirements.
Great online racing also.
A growing number of modifications which allow creators to alter the
physics.  DTM is my favorite. Hasbro (original maker) has patched the
game to allow complete mods to do what the programer wants.
MODS include....  DTM (Mercedes road racing). Off Road Heat.
Saleen Heat. IRL HEat. CART HEAT. Go-Kart Heat coming soon.
GT40 heat. LeMAns heat.
I paid $10 for my copy of NHeat and now have about 10 extra racing
sims for free.

A good start for researching NHeat mods is:
http://www.sim-editing.com/

So, for $25 you can be happy for a long time. These games do benefit
from buying a driving wheel / pedals. Both support Force Feedback.
I choose not to use FF (to distracting) You might pay more for NHeat.
E-bay is a good place to find GPL. or post a request here in RAS to
find out if anyone else has sources.

All of these games do require about 2 weeks of driving before you will
see yourself getting around a track in one piece / no dirt. But once
you have the technique, you will be hooked. I race in two GPL Leagues,
and one DTM League. uses up about 1-2hrs a night of practice to be
competitive for GPL as my league is very fast.

So I hear...  Even the same manual almost verbatim?  Oh well - I didn't pay
full price for it...
