Well, I wasn't sure, hence the question.  I don't think the date the sim came
out has any bearing on whether it's good or not.  But, if you can get GP3 to
drive itself around the track by just stepping on the gas pedal, you *must*
have steering and braking help turned on.  Check in the options screen.

The manual isn't as good as World Circuit in some ways...

It may come as a shock to many of the "stale" folk in this group, but GP3
has a much bigger following than any other racing sim' around the 'net.
Having said that, some of the (legitimate) GP3 hotlaps I've downloaded make
a mockery of the game.

I definitely recall driving NFS-PU in 1999, which would make it a year
older than GP3. Doesn't need DX7, but it was never designed for new
releases of DX anyway. GP3 was late 2000 IIRC.

And GP3 may have outdated graphics, but it is still an excellent F1
sim IMO, esp. with the season 2000 addon. Of course, I haven't tried
F1 2001 yet...

Wouldn't surprise me.   Simply knowing the sales figures says that it has a
larger following.
But, what's wrong with the hotlaps?

Sales of GP3 were very disappointing for Hasbro.

Disappointing is relative.  If they expected half a million, but only got 300K,
they might be disappointed.  But 300K units sold is still darn good, isn't it?

Point taken.
