Hi All,
I have recently experimented with overclocking my P100 and experienced
problems caused by over heating.
My motherboard is an Intel Endevour, and the processor has a normal
heatsink. (The processor is located in such a position that with a
processor fan installed you cannot fit a full length card into an ISA
slot!!).
On removing the heatsink from the processor, it was found that only
25% of the processor was covered in heat transfer compound, and the
bit that was there was of paper thickness!!.
I have now applied a good covering of compound to the processor and I
have also fitted a high throughput 80mm fan to give plenty of air
movement, albeit from about 120mm away! (Should keep my AWE32 cool as
well!<g>)
I have now reclocked the machine to 120 megs with no problem, and
after 20 minutes hard processor use the heatsink is lukewarm.
Roll on Friday and hopefully a bit more detail in GP2,
Ian.
