It's pretty easy.  The best thing is to think of yourself in a real WC race
car when you are racing N3 per exemple.  You can easily know the limit of
your front bumper.

In the pits, slowly go forwards onto the rear of the parked AI.  When you
finally bump his rear, notice where the bottom of the windshield ends
compared to the rear of his car.  Bingo, you found the sweet spot that will
stay with you FOREVER in the sim.  It's how you can successfully draft each
other bumper to bumper at 200mph.  That's how they do in real life also FYI.

It's the same in GPL and how you can know where the front ends.

Dave,

It downloaded and ran perfectly on my cable modem on the first try.
RealPlayer has always worked great for me, even on my old dial-up modem.

I happen to be tall, and their are very few cars that i can't see the hood
on. But I do notice that the seating is very low in a race car and I expect
that no one can see the hood in a cup car.

Jeff Gordon is one of the worlds best WC drivers.  Yet he couldn't
see a tire less than 20 feet in front of him while in the pits.  I think
you guys will find, if asked, the WC drivers will say they CANNOT see
the hood.

I'm not on a slow dial-up Kai, I'm on cable and have had no problem in the
past with streaming video.  If my connection isn't optimal, I'll get some
"warp" of a portion of a second on video feeds, but I've never run into
anything like a frame every 10 seconds.

cable here, ran like ***even AFTER getting Realplayer upgraded to
version 7.  Well I should say it ran like ***the FIRST time I ran it.
After that full speed.  I think the AGN server is overloaded this
weekend.

I did the Richard Petty Driving Experience last year and didn't even come close to being able to see the hood, let alone
where the front bumper is. But the weird thing about it is that it felt very natural. Oh yeah, it sure was fun too :-)

Loved it myself, although my complaint is that the windshield looks far to
small.

but people (from papy) tell me its correct.....

Im looking for in car shots now over the net....i dont see the point in
seeing the center of the wheel if in real life the driver would only see it
in his lower periphery.

Eric,

Based on reply's of those who have actually driven in a stock car, including
yours, I have been convinced.

It would not have been as rude for you to just offer your input as one who has
actually driven a stock car, than throwing in a comment like "Go drive a stock
car...".  I realize you (and Shawn Wise) are busy and we appreciate the fact that
you take time to post to the forums we visit, but - you put your pants on one leg
at a time just like I do brother, try being a little nicer and not so defensive
when you reply.

Most of us think very highly of Papy as well as the crew that develops the sim's
that we love. It makes a difference to us when you spend a couple more minutes to
draft an explanation, rather than a short one sentence reply.

Regarding whether or not you show us what is currently "in development", by all
means! We understand that things change, and hopefully you understand that we
care greatly about what will end up being the finished product - and that's why
we take the time to offer our opinions and idea's.

Nothing I have seen posted yet has been in a critisizing fashion - but in a
complimentary fashion with only our thoughts and ideas regarding what we have
seen. Sure we sometimes argue among ourselves - but that is because a lot of us
are passionate for the sport we love.

David Cook

BTW - check out this link offered by Shawn Wise on the Sierra Motorsports forum
of the interior of Benson's car - it pretty much confirms your reply:

Not trying to be rude, just a statement of fact.  Until you've sat in a
stock car and seen the POV from the driver's seat, it doesn't make a
whole lot of sense to argue one way or another what you think the driver
should or shouldn't be able to see.  If you ever get a chance, you'll be
surprised how little they actually can see...
