Hi,

I just got TFNS after a heart wrenching wait and after I joyously
installed it and drooled at the opening screens, I was VERY disgusted to
find that my joystick intermittently gets detected and even if it does at
the beginning, by the time the race starts, the stick is gone. I pulled
my GUS PnP out and put in my friend's regular GUS and it worked fine.

Anyone else had similar experiences? Any ideas?

By me the joystick gets detected up front, I can even calibrate it,
but when the actual game starts, only the buttons are detected, and I
can't even move the car forward. The josytick also gets "disabled"
in the main menu, and only the buttons of the joystick seem to work.

I also have a GUS PnP , BTW, and my joystick is plugged into the soundcard
(not having any other game ports).

I also have problems with it in most of the other games I have (like
X-Wing, Duke 3D) but it works perfectly in MPF1GP and Descent.

Oh, an important followup to my own post: all of the above mentioned games
(TNFS included) work perfectly with my joystick, if I use SBOS! As soon as
I try to use native GUS for sound, my joystick problems kick in.

I suspect it is an HMI-driver problem in the games.

This is a known problem with the GUS. Some people dont seem to
complain about it though so it may even be motherboard related.
Some examples of games that I cant play using native sound with the
GUS are Mechwarrior2, TNFS, Wing Commander III and IV, Tie Fighter CD,
EF2000 and my latest game FIFA96. Also Earthseige2 which is a Win95
game. So I'd expect every Win95 game to have joystick problems.
It'll be interesting to see if the problem goes away when I upgrade my
motherboard in a couple of months.
