LWFF and Rally Champ 2000 gear problem

Can anyone help?
Have had to reformat my hard drive. So loaded Win98 version2, DirectX
7.0a, latest Voodoo3 drivers (1.04 I think?), plus latest Wingman
Formula Force software (3.30.532).

So the first game I reinstalled was Rally Champ 2000 and I can't seem to
get it to work very well. I have tried not creating or loading a profile
using the LW Profiler, with no luck. When I set up a 3-axis wheel +
pedals within the game the accelerator is recorded as -z, the brake as
-rz. Is this correct?

When driving along on a level surface in the game the gears occasional
change at a constant speed, but if I try and drive uphill the car will
not get out of first gear. The revs will rise to 8-9000 then second gear
will cut in, but almost immediately it reverts back to first. The net
effect being 9000 revs in first gear as the top speed, accompanied the
tooing and frowing from 1st to 2nd gear. As I said the problem doesn't
occur on a flat road or downhill one.

Prior to my harddrive crash I had this game working perfectly. I'm
getting really pissed off with the wheel now. Are there some settings I
should be playing with - sensitivity, gear ratios? Any ideas?

Desperate for help

Check if your brakes are*** ?
If you select a view where you can see the car you should see it on the
brake lights.
If thats its fix it by adding some upper deadzone.
(The brake and accelerater pedals are reversed so the upper deadzone is what
works as 'lower dead zone' for these.)

Anyway I have seen the changing up/down thing too sometimes when going
uphill, seems to go away if you select a lower gear ratio ?

Try manual gear shifting.

I've *never* used the profiler, and have had no problems getting the
controller to work in any games (RC 2000, GPL, Nascar 3, Midtown Madness,
SCGT, etc.) For games that don't support split axis I use the control panel
to switch it.

Some people use the profiler to set up custom force feedback settings and to
map buttons to functions that the game won't let you map a button to
directly. If you don't need that functionality, you don't need the
profiler - save that RAM and CPU for the game :)
