F1-style downshift buttons

F1-style downshift buttons

I recently added two pushbuttons to my T2; they are mounted in the outside two
holes of the wheel and really work great.  Now that I have that thought, I
want MORE!  Does anyone in this group have the expertise to design a simple
circuit that can have buttons programmed to to multiple downshifts?  I saw on
one of the F1 races (I think it was Monaco) where Mika Salo has buttons that
downshift 2 and 3 gears at a time.  The ideal circuit would have the following
features:

        1.  Support 3-gear downshift button
        2.  Support 2-gear downshift button
        3.  Support a button that downshifts 5 times so that you can always
get into first gear quickly
        3.  The first downshift should be immediate with the rest of the
downshifts following at a adjustable interval for different games/courses.

An issue might be getting power to run the circuit.  And I guess it will
probably need some sort of timer because I don't know how you could make a
resistor/capacitor setup work a definite number of times in quick succession.

My wheel mounted buttons already dropped my lap times at Portland by 1.5
seconds, I can only guess what a 6 --> 1 downshift button could do for me at
the end of the front straight! :)

This one is easy to implement.  Buy a Thrustmaster Weapons Control System
1.  Plug you joystick in to it and program the buttons to your hearts
content.  I have buttons programmed for toggling auto-braking, anti-roll
bar adjustment, boost and brake bias.

I would guess simply detonate your engine. :)

Ummm, in ICR, you can allow the sim to handle your gear shifting for
you.

Well, I can hazard a guess that if I put it in my car then there would
be the first Honda powered satellite! You hit that baby at the wrong
time and that engine's gonna be in orbit!

Nice idea though :)

Cheers!

I like your idea, let me know if it evers happens.  I'd be weary
thought of blowing your engine, unless there is some way to tie these
buttons to your brake pedal, or even the software.
