It is very likely that either the wires running through the steering
column to the buttons or the connections on the buttons have been
broken.  I highly suggest you contact TM and see what they can do for
you.  You can post your request for parts and service via their webpage
http://www.thrustmaster.com/support/servmail.htm

At the end of this message I will also include the tech support contacts
for Europe.

Here is a post culled from the r.a.s. graveyard that may help you out
until your parts arrive (or they replace your unit):

If it is of any help, I had the same problem and fixed it myself.  Upon
opening the unit (for those curious ones) I discovered that the wires going
through the steering shaft broke inside the protective sleeve.  This is
because the opening in the shaft where the wire comes out is very rough and
as you bend the wheels left and right the wires are constantly rubbed
against the edge.  Eventually the wire breaks.  I had to use a new wire
with better sleeve, and filed the edges of the opening to make it smoother.
You have to do alot of soldering, and in the process I broke he soldering
post on one of the cheap buttons.  I managed to fix it but I am planning to
replace the buttons with more substantial ones soon. So far, it has been
working OK.  Of course, this is really lousy design by TM and I fixed it
myself because, well because I am curious about things and I cannot help
it, and second I like the way the wheel feels.

I also broke my pedal springs and ended up modifying the basic design of
the pedal base and springs.  I can give more info to those who might be
interested.
