You would have received a 1 point penalty for being involved in an
incident.

He was docked a point for being involved, but he made some more positive
points because he came in 3rd and probably beat at least 2 other drivers to
the finish line.  Depending on the skill level of the drivers he beat, he will
have gained a certain number of positive points, thus nullifying the incident
point.

Sounds fair to me.

Who's to say he shouldn't get the penalty? He spun. He lost control of
his car. BTW: He received 2 points in reality. Also, you, and the
original poster, say he didn't cause the incident. If someone is holding
up a faster car, and you tangle, it's BOTH parties fault. He mentions in
the post that he is BLOCKING. That's a bad decision to do unless you're
willing to pay the consequences. Apparently, he doesn't like paying them.
He should've let the faster car go by... he would have finished in 2nd
rather than 3rd. His BLOCKING moves cost him a position.

So what happens to a driver who's just not up to speed?  If I run 20 races,
and finish near the back in most or all of them(with no incidents),  am I
*still* going to be stuck on level 0?

A question from the 'velocity-challenged'

I am NOT paranoid.  And why are you always watching me?!?

The incidents count weather u caused them or not, a lot of the higher
level beta tester have lost their hard earned levels for racing with
the new folks.
The point system sounds good on paper but sucks in practice.
Very few people cause incidents deliberately, there is a steep
learning curve when u r new to the system. Time spent racing AI does
little to prepare u for the network and with 5% sprints the pressures
on to get to the front as soon as possible. A setup for demolition
derbys that will hurt everyones points.

Seems to me that the idea should be to encourage as many people to
race as often as possible, it is intended to be a profitable
enterprise eventually. The current system punishes use. I have a
friend who recently dropped from level 7 to 4 became of entering pick
up races. He says he with only enter league races from now on to
protect his level. I'm about to drop the system completely. Why pay
home for free?
