I have an application which needs svga. is there a software trick to
force vga to seem like svga so the app will run?(I have vga only).

No, but you could probably buy a cheapo SVGA card for $50, and a
half-decent one for $75. (In fact, I'm guessing if you go to a
computer swap meet, you could get one for around $20.)
