Do GPL Trainers Keep Traits of GP Cars?

by John P. Wilso » Sun, 25 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hello,

I was wondering if the trainers in GPL keep the same traits (i.e. Lotus is
squirrelly, Murasama slow and loose) as the GP cars, or if they all behave
the same.

Thanks!

The trainer cars use the exact same chassis parameters as their GP
counterparts.  The trainer tires have less grip, however.  The Novice
Trainer tires have less grip than the Advanced Trainer's, and the AT's less
than the GP's.

There is a single Novice Trainer engine which is used in all of the chassis
types, and a single engine for Advanced Trainers as well.  In GP, each
chassis type has a unique engine, and as the more experienced of you are
well aware by now, the engine characteristics greatly influence car
handling.

Good question!  If someone has definitive info on what traits are maintained
and which are not, I'd like to see it.  I've driven a bunch of them as basic
trainers and I know that the Eagle is fastest (Vmax) with default setups at
Monza.  And my impression is that some are more stable than the Lotus.  But I
don't know the ins and outs.

Ah, that explains why I have to back off the throttle of the trainer car in
the Curva Grande when I can go through it faster in the GP car than the
trainer can go on the straights!  I was pulling my hair out trying to find the
setup that allow me to not lift.  Then again, the AI cars are still 5mph
faster than me through this curve and the Lesmos.

Matt:
I just beat your time at the Glen, the one which came out with the
game. I'm getting some times in the 1:06s, and lots in the 1:07s. But
in races, they just vanish in the distance. Like they had hot tires.
Question:If you come right off a practice session, into a race, do you
have hot tires or cold? My car's tires act cold, and I get left in the
dust!
