T2 NASCAR Pro Wheel Question and General opinion

by To » Tue, 18 Aug 1998 04:00:00

First. I'm replacing a broken spring in the pedal assembly and when I
opened the base up I noticed a GREEN wire that was not
attached to anything. I'm not sure if I did this when I opened the
base or if it was always like that (just like the 2 buttons  I had to
fix on the wheel). Can someone who's been in there tell me where this
wire goes?

Second. Assuming I get tired of this wheel soon (I've used it for a
year), what is the best wheel system out there??? Just looking for
opinions, no fights.

There is soon to be a NASCAR Pro 2 steering wheel with force feedback.
You might want to consider that?

But I wonder, how has anyone fixed their problem of the pedals moving
all over the place on a carpet???

i've only got a T2, but to prevent those damn pedals from sliding
around like they were a bar of soap, i have a strategically placed
piece of wood that rests against the back of the pedal unit and
runs back to rest against the wall behind my desk. there is no
way in hell that sucker is gonna slide :)
I also have another peice of wood under the front lip of the
pedal unit to tilt the pedals back to a much more comfortable
angle to use when in a sitting position.

When I was using my T2, I cut a piece of 1x4 to the proper length, and put
it between the wall and pedals, kept em in place nicely.

I solved the pedals moving around by using velcro =)   I used thick padding
to bring the bottom of the base to just a hair over the floor (to make up
for the 4 corner pads).  I then just placed velcro on the base and on my
anti-static pad under my desk.  Works great =)

I too have a NASCAR Pro and have had it for about 8 months.  Im getting
tired of it myself.  Depending on the money there are several wheels out
there.  From the research Ive done the ECCI is the top of the line.  But
for $1,000 it should be!  I personally dont like the forklift like
pedals... but for quality there is no better.   Next in line is the TSW
wheel family.  For $220.00...  the TSW2 is a fantastic wheel!  Then there
is the TSW with several variations that run from $375.00 up to $750.00 or
more.  I personally like the TSW pedals better than the ECCIs.  For the
money difference...   I place TSW ahead of ECCI because they are pretty
close on quality.  TSW does give you a lifetime warranty on the wheel.  I
cant say for the ECCI.  Im looking at getting a TSW2 in a few months since
the only real difference between the TSW base and TSW2 that effects
performance is that it does not come with a dual switch, buttons on wheel,
or paddle shifters.  These are all options BTW... but if you want to add
them you may as well get the TSW base unit.  I personally dont use the
buttons on the wheel and I like the gear shift better than paddle
shifters.  Maybe its just the "realism" factor since N2 is my sim of choice
=)

Good luck and the only thing I can say is its based on your $$$ and your
preference in what you want for a wheel.

I have had my TSW2 since April, and it is fantastic. You won't be
dissappointed. I had some pot problems early on, but after settling on the
digikey pots, it's doing great.

The TSW2 is an awesome wheel and pedals, especially considering what you get
for the money. Response is much tighter, no slop. Turning the wheel is soo
smooth, when I replaced the bungee in my T2 I thought it was smooth, not
even close to the TSW2.
I have not had any problems setting the wheel up and calibrating in win95 or
in Nascar2 or GPL demo. As I mentioned earlier, the only trouble I had was
with pots, which Trevor replaced for me a couple times at no charge.  I had
seen some TSW owners posting on the newsgroup their happiness with the
Digikey pots, I've got 3 of em in my TSW2 now, and working great.
Btw, I do not use a gamecard. I run through my SB16 gameport. I do have the
TM Propanel utility installed, I have used the TSW2 with both Propanel
installed and uninstalled, good performance either way. I used to use a
gamecard cause I thought it was necessary, I was using the CH Gamecard 3 , I
just don't see the need for using it anymore. The propanel utility makes my
FLCS w/ TQS work very smooth in my flight sims, as well as wheel and pedals.
