NASCAR Pro Wheel Question....

by Brock Bolt » Tue, 05 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Is there any way to decrease the amount of play in the Thrustmaster NASCAR
Pro wheel?  I've had it for a few months, and it's pretty good, but the
play is pretty bad at top dead center....any ideas are appreciated....

What you are probably experiencing is a stretched out bungee cord.  If you
open up the wheel you will see that the steering is operated by a bungee
cord.  It has ties at each end that you will have to cut, stretch the cord
and replace with new ties.  It may be a good idea to replace the bungee cord
itself, if it is too stretched.  I have had to do this twice in the last
year.  Any questions email me.

You must be putting in some heavy driving.  The "tension" on the
Thrustmaster wheels is supplied by a bungee chord.  You can tighten it
up (as it seems you may have reduced the tension on yours).  Alison Hine
outlines this procedure for the T2, which should apply as well to the
Pro wheel.  Here is the URL:

But, it also sounds like you need to order a replacement bungee kit from
Thrustmaster.  Use their automated system to accomplish this, you will
need to register and create a profile for their database first.  Here is
the direct URL:

Yoove stretcchhed yourr bungeeee. When you get a hold of TM have them send
some pedal springs as well. If you would like to have a more realsitic pedal
feel try building yourself a pedal box so something solid is behind your
pedals then wedge a tennis ball in there, it will provide some progressive
resistance and really imo help the pedal feel. Lower is softer and more
travel, higher is stiffer and less travel. Worth 1-2 seconds.

You've tightened the***at the bottom of the steering shaft? (The
black one, visible without removing any covers). I have to tighten it up
every 3-5 days on my TM Formula 1 (the same wheel with a different
name).

Wonderfull design, huh :)

I wrote them begging them to go to a three-screw system on this, but I
guess it's too costly to use another 5 cents worth of hardware to create
a proper attachment system...

That rocking of the wheel irritates me to no end.

I have to tighten mine each _day_.

I'm about ready to Liquid Weld the thing on there.
