It's called Monaco G.P. Racing Sim because they didn't get an FIA license, but
they did get a license from the Monaco G.P.  That's the reason it isn't F1RS2.

I just went here http://www.f1rs.com/newseng.html and found out that F1RS 2 is
being called Monaco Grand Prix Racing Sim. Why is it called this?

They do not have the FIA/Bernie Ecclestone Super Licence needed to be
able to legally use the words "F1", "FIA", "FOCA", and the team names,
drivers names, sponsor names and track/circuit names (other than Monaco,
which they have arranged with Monaco itself.)

Oh man, Bernie pisses me off more every day. Imagine, if a game
developer
can't afford the license to, in some degree, PROMOTE the thing by
developing
a simulation of it. It's like those cutie Tshirts with big manufacturer
logos
on them, for which you pay a premium to walk around like a PR bozo...

I heard something to the extent that Psygnosis has secured the FIA license for
the next few seasons.  If so, it is a travesty to say the least that the game
which does the least justice to the sport (in sim terms anyway) has sole rights
for the next couple of years.

Hopefully this is just another rumor floating around...

I've been an F1 fan since the "O" in "FOCA" meant "Ox Cart".
But how many times have we seen posts that go "I was never a
fan of Formula One until I started racing this sim"?

If Bernie wasn't so cheap, he'd have more people watching his
series, and make more money.  He should give Ubi, or any sim
developer, the rights to promote his sport.

How is F1RS2 going to deal with other license issues?  The
idea of providing the tools to let the customers duplicate any
team of track has always interested me.

Maybe the just don't want the licence, so the can gave more freedom of whats
in it and whats not, No more driver X. We can create all our own Driver and
Team names in no time.

cheers
Graham

I don't believe that it is a *sole* license situation with F1.

As I understand it, anybody will be granted license rights *provided*
that they are prepared to pay FIA/FOCA for that license.

The name change may well have to do with licensing agreement. I don't really care
what they call it. As long as it's an updated F1rs, they can call it "Barney does
Dallas" for all I care <ggg.>

I agree, but will they be allowed to use the correct driver and team names
etc?

I dont think so... if you look at the latest screenshots, the sponsors look
fake on the cars... correct me if I'm wrong...

For F1RS you could download editors for that after some weeks. F1RS2
will
be fully editable (well, it's promised ;^), so they don't need to...

No, but they can provide us with the ability to change the info.
Which, if you read the blurb, is exactly what they intend doing.
