So Tom you are saying that the change in drivers doubles the speed of N4 and
you are certain the vysnc is turned off? Well it just seems mighty odd that
the new driver frame rate is double the old one. All Iam saying is the way
games work that its quite plain that something is waiting for a vsync in N4
and the old drivers could have been running at just under 60 frames or so
(being forced by the vsync top 30) and with the new drivers running at 60+
being forced to 60.

So what you're saying is that the new drivers *doubled* your FPS in N4???

If so - this I gotta have....

URL please...

Cheers..

If the monitor rate is 60hz but the game runs at 59 frames the vsync lock
will make it run at 30Hz, agreed?

no.  you'll probably get 45 on average.  that is, 1 frame displayed
once, and the next displayed twice.

No you wouldnt, it dosnt work that way, the program will wait for the vsync,
it will lock to 30hz.

we're both right, actually. :)  it depends on whether you wait for
vsync to draw, or wait for vsync to swap buffers.

besides; if a program can draw an average of 59FPS, that doesn't mean
one frame takes 1/59 seconds to draw.

uh, and it depends on whether you have one or two back buffers.
dammit, this is complicated. :)

New Nvidia Ref Drivers - Scores/FPS

Ed...

They doubled the N4 FPS on my system.......if yours is identical to
mine....then they are likely to do the same.  If not...who knows?  Please
note, they did not double the FPS on System #2.....only System #1 that I
reported here.  Although, System #2 did show an increase in both the
3DMark2001 scores and the N4 FPS.....it wasn't as substantial.

Hope that's clear?

Tom
