N2/CART track compatability?

by Brando » Wed, 24 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Anyone know of a way to import tracks from Papyrus' NASCAR Racing 2 into
Papyrus' CART racing, and/or vice-versa?  I've tried just moving one or
two of the TRACKS subdirectories' contents over, and although the track
was listed (in CART, anyhow.  Couldn't figure out how to list a new
track in N2) I would get the error (again, in CART) "could not load 3D
track definition" and it would abort loading the track.

I'd really like to try Talladega in an Indy car, or Laguna in a stock
car!

 There are convertors available at www.theuspits.com for converting tracks
from Nascar Racing 1 to CART (or ICR2).  However, there does not exist a
convertor for N2 to CART.  You can probably pick up a copy of N1 very cheap
and convert the tracks you want for free (thanks to Gerhard L.).

The track formats are not initialy comapable, but can be convered using
special programs.  I suspect that there are no actual track format
changes between papy ICR2 and papy CART.

Here is what's possbile given the current available track converters:
Nascar1 tracks --> ICR2 tracks.
ICR2 Tracks --> Nascar1 tracks.
ICR2 Tracks --> Nascar2 tracks.
ICR1 Indianapolis Track --> Nascar1
ICR1 Indy --> ICR2
ICR2 Converted Indy --> Nascar2

Notes:
Noticably missing is the ablity to convert Nascar2 tracks to ICR2.  This
will probably never be possible.  Use the Nascar1 versions instead.
Most of these converters are not only free, but have capable (but not
perfect) AI.  However, the ICR2 --> Nascar2 converter is NOT free.  Its
supposed to cost $15.00 to register it.  This converter provides rotten
unusable AI and just kinda sucks.  You can still tool around the road
courses for time trials though.

For the files.  They also have homemade edited tracks which rule.

My fastest lap at N1 tally converted to ICR2 is 253.224mph with
Lola/Honda/Firestone.

You need to look at the site www.theuspits.com.  They sell a track
converter for nascar2.
