What a great game !!

Although you can only drive one track and one car, the demo is great.

Graphics are wonderful and framerates very high on my Pentium4 1.6gh  256ram
geforce 2mx400 system.

Handling is very real, although you can not drift as much as in GPL. There
are also fun damage effects

I am looking forward to play the full game and try it with multiplayer
options.

The full game is $29 CAD from EB!  It's suppose to be out Oct 29th.
I've already put a reserve on one :)

Jason.

Tell me if your able to use throttle to control
the car at all in low speeds though?

Well, i guess a rally prepared mina wasnt able to spin
the wheels on gravel in low gears at that time then...

once I got the split axis on my TM pro Dig 2 working, I got pretty good
control.  With the little Mini's motor I just kept the gas floored and used
the brake to 'set' the car into the lesser turns.  A couple of turns you can
make use of the parking brake to swing around.  Still haven't made a
completely clean run but thats par for the course.

Rally Trophy Demo . first impressions

Didn't want to start a new thread just to add my first impressions, so here
they are-

Physics - Easily better than Rally Championship and Colin McRae 2.  Just
about superior to Rally Masters.  Car behaves very nicely over bumps.  Seems
to slide in a realistic manner.

Graphics - Excellent.  Everything on full, draw distance on half, very
smooth.  P3-750, GF2 pro.  Cars look very nice.

Tracks - A little wide, but that's the norm in rally games, only Rally
Championship had realistic tracks. Very detailed track surrounds.  Lots of
visible terrain stretching way into the distance and from side to side.

Sound - Nice if not spectacular.  Co-driver gives you stick if you make
mistakes :)

Will be getting this one?  Yep, should be the best rally game around when
it's released.

Simon.

Rally Trophy Demo . first impressions

Is it just me, or is there something missing here?  Maybe it's my card (CL SB 64), but I am seriously missing some decent aural
feedback here; specifically the sounds made my the wheels as they fight for grip.  There should be some tire noise, increasing with
pace and varying by surface.  It should differ with load, when skidding sideways versus tracking straight, or when sliding with
locked brakes.  I get nothing here, nor is there any sound when jumping and landing - nada.  I think I'm I'm missing apexes
sometimes by braking when I'm apparently a bit airborne, but who'd know with no tire sounds?  BB says their physics is right up
there with you-know-what, but you'd never know it from the feedback.  (BTW - I tried several different sound driver choices in the
setup menu, but got no tire noise; the other sounds seem to work ok.)

Nice demo otherwise, lovely with the graphics cranked up; but seriously weak aurally if my experience is the norm.  Controller setup
could be better too; my LWF works, but the "tuning" choices are pretty weak in the demo.  For instance, with the sensitivity
settings on medium, my throttle only responds after half-travel.  The brake seems to get full travel, so what's up with that?  The
wheel's calibrated fine and works great in everything else.  Notice to all developers - see how MGI does controller setup in Heat.

Hope the sound issue's not universal,

SB

know it from the >feedback.

This is not possible.  Nothing is right up there with you-know-what.  The
Fundementalists of Racing Sims say so, and I believe them.

Purely in the interest of science, I made what may have appeared to an
untrained observer to be a mistake, while driving RT.  The resulting crash
TEST caused some damage to the hood and bumper.  The rest of the stage was
spent driving with a hood(bonnet) that was attempting to get blown off.
That little extra touch is nice AND it makes for a very big distraction.

I agree about the sound. All rally games that I've tried (not just the
otherwise fine Rally Trophy) are on the quiet side for vehicles that are
travelling at a rapid rate over rough roads. In addition to the tire noise
there really should be more body noises as the suspension hits its travel
stops and shocks are transmitted directly into the body. Thumps , squeaks
(from the broken body welds) and rattles. These noises almost tend to be
felt rather than heard but , in a sim, the aural environment has to make up
for what the tactile environment cannot supply. Wind sounds should also be
more prominent particulary during periods when the car is airborn.

Otherwise an excellent demo, I will certainly be looking for it at my local
EB in the future

I would have thought the greatest noise would come from all those stones
hitting the underside of the car. Well it does in Welsh forests anyway.

Andi.
