TGrand the developer of ALShift for Act Labs has released a new version of
his utility that supports the RS Shifter in the RT Demo.

Sheesh.  I guess I went wrong when I bought my TM Nascar Pro Digital 2 a
year or so back.  TM (or whomever owns that company now) has been fiddling,
delaying the release of some drivers for XP so that we can get split axes.

Last I heard, drivers for XP were nearly ready for release.  That was a
while back, I believe.

No you went wrong installing a new OS when your old one worked just fine.
(I'll take all that back if you bought a new system)  You got XP and found
that previous windows hardware which DID work, now doesn't.  That's
Gulliemot/Thrustmaster's fault?
The best solution would be to either stick with your previous OS or at
least wait til hardware issues have been resolved.

One would think that with the release of a new OS, hardware manufacturers
would follow suit with new drivers as soon as possible.  If I recall
correctly, nVidia has released two drivers now, certified, that work with
XP.  Many hardware manufacturers have followed suit.  Why hasn't
Thrustmaster?  Because they are bums, that's why.

ok they are bums....but I would think Windows history of hardware problems
with upgrades would have been reason enough to delay a purchase of a
non-upgrade upgrade.  Last I checked, Nvidia was releasing drivers at a
frantic rate..I don't know if XP had any bearing on the release schedule of
Nvidia's broken drivers...you didn't get a GF3 also did you??
(sigh....)  :)
dave(still happy with a non-broken win98se)henrie
ps  I can't remember the last time I had a complete lockup of windows98.
Isn't that XP's biggest selling feature?
pps...the TM NPD2 I have is happily running split axis on my system for the
new Rallye Trophy demo...
ppps  Id releases patches for products in waves with little or no beta
testing.
Papy holds onto their patches until it clears several levels of quality
control.  Is one method better than the other?  Who knows what procedures
Gulliemot/TM follows.

XP is the most stable operating system for games that I've seen yet from
Microsoft.  I really don't think that Thrustmaster has very good support,
though in the past it might have been different.

I too could get split axis to work under WinME, but I had to use the TM TSR
to do so, which I found to be a big-time hassle.

Tell me, do you use the TM software to get split axis, or do you just
configure as such using what is available in Windows 98?  At one time I got
it where I didn't have to use the TM software, but I fell upon that luckily
and had a hard time getting it back to that.

yes I use the 'thrustmapper' software.  Mainly cuz I like soft brake
pedals that don't lock up and I can edit the characteristics of the pedal
returns with the software.  I have created new config programs for just
about all the sims I have, they are all very similar...If I was more
motivated, I could probably get efficient and figure out a way to have all
the programs use one file...:)

There are several versions available on the tm website, the latest fixes a
memory leak which some others have complained about.  I'm sure they will
eventually get XP drivers but they also have to cover two different lines of
video and soundcards and two different lines of wheels...the Pro Dig 2 is
probably fairly low on their priority list..(just my hunch)
