Nascar2 Demo and SB16 Problem

by Tim Ha » Fri, 27 Sep 1996 04:00:00

When I run the Nascar 2 demo, it hangs when I hit 'Drive' on the race
menu.  I found that by deleting the sound.cfg file, the demo then works
fine, but with no sound of course.  I tried copying the sound.cfg from
Nascar 1, but it still hangs.  I've got a Soundblaster 16.  Any other
SB16 owners out there have this problem... or even better yet, a
solution? :)

By the way, how are you supposed to monitor your pit speed without a
speedometer?

<Some stuff removed>
I have a SB16 and I was crashing hitting 'Drive' before. I now clean boot
with only what is necessary (Mouse) and it works fine.

As for monitoring the speed in the pit, you can switch to external view
with F10 before going in the pit, there you will have a speedometer.

Hope this help

Have you forgotten your spotter? He tells you when you are close to
speeding. BTW the real cars have no speedometer and there should be no
need for one if you do the same thing the real guys do, drive down pit
road in 1sr gear, keep speeding up slowly, when your spotter warns you,
note your tach reading.

I got the sound to work finally by doing as someone else suggested --
using a clean boot.  Specifically, I made a boot floppy that loads the
mouse driver and not much else.  So, you might want to try that.

And that answered my other question too -- now I can hear the spotter
telling me when my pit speed is too fast! Coolness.

But your spotter (in real life) *doesn't* know your current speed.
(Correct me if I'm wrong.)  He can tell you to maintain a RPM/speed,
but he can't tell you when you're about to *exceed* it.  You have to
watch RPM/speed yourself.

I'm running an SB32AWE and have no problem with sound, how are you guys
detecting your cards? Are you using the "setup"?
As for the speedometer issue, you'll need the sound first but then just
drive down pit road and slowlt speed up, your spotter will tell you when
your about to break the limit.

The release version will have a tach and speedo I hear.
