Setups for ALMS Mod Racecars?

by Tom Pabs » Thu, 16 May 2002 03:05:24

Hey guys.....

I was looking around for some basic setups for the cars in the F1-2001 ALMS
mod....Porsches, vette, BMW's....and couldn't find anything.  Maybe I didn't
look in the right places?

Anyone know where to find some basic setups for these cars?  Do the FIAGT
car setups work (for cars that are the same as in the ALMS mod?  I would
think not...since the physics between the two mods is something
different....but I might be wrong about that?

Thanks,

Tom

PS:  I'm suspecting the Boris and a few of the other ALMS drivers might want
to take a run in their own cars.....even though sitting in the Panoz
simulator.  So, just want to be prepared....if that should happen.

Thanks so much for your help, Ed.  Perhaps the "yaaaaaawwwwnnn" is for
Boris, though?

Not to change the subject on you Tom, but have you tried the JGTC mod
for F1 2001 yet?  If you're not familiar with it, it's based on the
Japanese GT Championship, and can be downloaded at www.yellowgarage.com.
I think you would enjoy it.  These cars, installed with the "Sander's
Physics" option, really feel great to me.  Of course I have no real life
experience to base that on, so I would love to hear your opinion if you
get a chance to try it.  To me they have as much feedback as the FIA mod
but are more controllable (perhaps due to lower power?) and they recover
well but do not feel glued to the road like in the ALMS mod.  Very nice.

Whoa, spoke too soon!  Not all of the vehicles are controllable, that
NSX is a real handful!  Try the Supra though, it feels great.

Haqsau....

I have not installed the JGTC mod yet....but plan on doing it as soon as the
ALMS event here at Sears is over.  I did try the FIAGT mod.....didn't think
much of it and removed it from my race box.  However, I understand a "v2" is
out...and I should give that a go as well.  Isn't Doug Arnoe (spl?) behind
that one?  His work would have to be first rate.

I like the ALMS mod....mainly because those cars run here in the USA, and
I've raced with many of the current ALMS drivers.  Of course, I'd like to
see the ALMS mod add the GTS and LMP675's and LMP900's......then hopefully
they'll start building some of the tracks that are so glaringly missing (the
US road courses).  The physics on this mod are not bad....especially if they
settle on the "grip" issue and lower it.  My understanding is they'll do
that in order to release the GTS cars (which will be based on the GT car
physics parameters).  We'll have to see.

I've heard very good things on the JGTC mod - from both a graphics and car
physics standpoint.......and will give it a try as I said.  However, those
cars don't have a personal appeal to me.....I don't attend races in
Japan....you know?  Don't know the drivers either....lol...

Too bad the V8 Supercars sim is such junk.  Those are great cars and the
Aussie drivers are some of the best I've seen handling high-octane V8
racecars.  I don't think I missed a race on Speed Channel this past winter
(their summer).  Our own Winston Cup drivers could take a few lessons from
those V8 Supercar drivers!  No doubt!  And, I was looking forward some of
those great Aussie tracks (Bathurst....the most).  Dang it!

Regards,

Tom

I race the NSX...

Got to tweak the settings a bit but 1:23-24 at A1 sounds OK no?

Cool Mod!
