GPL linearity setting for wheels

GPL linearity setting for wheels

I use a TSW wheel in GPL and wonder what others are doing for setting the
linearity slider vs. other steering setup options. With the slider near the
left side, the steering is very responsive in turns, etc. but then the car
is twitchy on the straights and I need a death-grip on the wheel. With the
slider to the right, it makes it seem like there's a big dead-zone in the
steering so that if the car starts to wander a little I have to turn the
wheel a lot and then tend to overcorrect. Maybe this is just a matter of
learning it, but what are others using for settings?

There's clearly some personal preference involved here.  I set the slider just
to the right of the "r" in "Linear".  That's where I find the best combination
of response without skittishness.

As others have mentioned, it's largely a matter of personal preference. In
addition, I find that with more experience I need to re-evaluate my settings to
get the most from the car. It's a balancing act between linearity and steering
ratio, and the different cars and different setups will demand changes.

To answer your question though .... <G>  I usually have the linearity set one
quarter of the way from the left. Much farther left and it's awfully twitchy,
much more to the right and I don't have the response I need.

All of this from a guy who's still 10 seconds off the pace at Spa after a solid
week of practice, so take it for what it's worth.

Funny, as I have the slider fully to the right using a Nascar Pro Wheel. I
see from old recordings that the drivers had to "work" way harder behind the
wheel, so the stability I get on the straights is worth the "wrestling" in
the corners.

Placement of the linear slider will depend on a number of things.  The
more precison you have in your controller and game card, the more one
can move it towards the left.  As the pot in my NASCAR Pro got worn, I
found myself moving ever more so towards the right (to keep the car
controlable on the straight and under braking).  I tried GPL with a new
Super Sport and now find I can safely move the slider back towards the
left and see none of the sloppiness on the straights or under braking.
