ROB SWINDELLS RACING: ELF-FASTRACK PREVIEW - Rob Swindells

NEWS MEDIA CONTACT: Rob Swindells - Public Relations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 25, 1999

PREVIEW: ELF-FASTRACK

ROB SWINDELLS 3RD EQUAL - 1999 GOLDLINE BEARINGS SUPERCUP Championship

What:  ELF-FASTRACK SCHOLARSHIP 1999, Silverstone

The Elf-Fastrack programme is dedicated to finding the Grand Prix
drivers of the future. On offer is a year's tuition at the world's only
motoracing academy, "Elf La Filiere" at le Mans, absolutly FREE and a
season's FULLY FUNDED single-seater racing in the French Campus-Elf
championship

Rob Swindells: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me to progress my
career. I've been working hard all year and I'm glad that I've managed
come up with the budget to have a crack at winning the Elf-Fastrack 1999
competition. I'm expecting tough competition and relishing the first
real challenge of my motoracing career. I'm extremely motivated to
succeed and I feel in a good position, thanks to my training, to
capitalise on this chance. The competiton is being held on a circuit I
know - Silvertone's Stowe Circuit, so my first priority is to win the
final two rounds of the Jim Russell Goldline Bearings Supercup
championship, held on the same circuit. This I feel, will set me up well
and give me the confidence to get to Le Mans."

1996 Elf-Fastrack Champion: Tom Davies
1997 Elf-Fastrack Champion: Westley Barber
1998 Elf-Fastrack Champions: Adam Jones & Adam Carroll

That's the version Ron Dennis would be proud of... What I really feel is
that if I don't win, it'll be an injustice and I'll kill myself!

What relationship does this have to the Elf Winfield school?

This wins you a year at the school which obviously includes a year of
Formula Campus. I was at an F3 race last year at Snetterton where the
Campus championship was having a run. Close cars, good racing.

Elf used to fund drivers who won Winfield right upto Formula One (Eric Comas,
Eric Bernard, Olivier Panis). Unforunately Elf cut back on their sponsorship
of the program a few years ago, and now the Elf support only goes as far as
the French F3 championship :( The Winfield School is still top knotch and
winning that will still get you a season of Formula Renault Elf-Campus. (About
25,000) But not, I believe, entry into La Filiere.

I'd be researching that a bit better if I were you :)

From the website:
"This year's two winners will each receive a funded season of single
-seater racing in France's Campus-Elf Championship in the year 2000, plus
an exclusive place at Elf La Filire - the world's only motor racing
university - at the Le Mans circuit, in France"

I am surprised you didn't know that Rob...

Yes, I know this - THAT is the prize for winning the *Elf-Fastrack*
competition. _Winfield_ is something quite, quite different. Winfield is a
motoracing school that teaches you to correctly drive single-seaters. If you
successfully complete the Winfield course, you have a chance to compete in
the Winfield Challenge. I went for this chance to win a 25,000 scholarship
of Formula Renault Elf-Campus but missed out by 0.5s - that was 1998 and all
took place at Paul Ricard.

Now I'm going for the Elf-Fastrack scholarship which will get me a "funded
season of single-seater racing in France's Campus-Elf Championship in the
year 2000, plus an exclusive place at Elf La Filire - the world's only motor
racing university - at the Le Mans circuit, in France".

Understand? I know exactly what's going on with my motoracing. Everything is
black and white for me at the moment, how it should be. I have the budget,
the ability and confidence to succeed right now...

I'm glad you have a high opinion of my intelligence. Thanks.

Heh... well good luck.  I've seen a round of the Campus-Elf
Championship I think.  Is that the one where there's lots of the same car
and you draw lots for which number you race in?  Very confusing for the
watchers - they should paint them different colours or something.
Looked like good racing though.

What is the "Goldline Bearing FFord Championship"? I have never seen or
heard of this championship during my travels around the UK circuits. I
attend upwards of 30 events per year at club, national and international
level, I would have thought that on at least one occaision during this time,
our paths would have crossed.

Hi there - the Goldline Bearings Championship is run by the Jim Russell school
for their course graduates. It's only a 6 race series run on the Stowe circuit
at Silverstone. It's not very big and only useful for gaining signatures on my
licence and racing  experience.

Sounds very confident Rob, I like it!!

Supreme confidence is the first step to becoming a consistent winner.

Cheers,
